No. I used an informal spelling to convey the meaning of my sentiments. Had I intended to take His name in vain, I would have. It wasn't a smarmy misspelling, it was deliberate to not use His name but still express myself.

The streak of plays/bad snaps has been awful. But I did not feel saying simply awful was sufficient.

One thing I take comfort in is that Bronco and the rest of the coaches have had 2 weeks to prepare. Bronco does well when he has a lot of time to prep. Hopefully one thing they've done, in addition to scheming for Utah, is getting the team prepped mentally. Mental discipline has been sorely lacking in recent yeas and the Utes have taken advantage of it. We cannot lose the turnover battle in this game. Period.

kW has already created feeder board material with his off the cuff remark that they play against a lot of KVNs in the PAC-12 every Saturday. Hmmm...not sure that I have seen this yet but I bet KVN has something to now prove. Here's betting that KW will be glad he doesn't have to face VanNoy in the future.

interesting in the difference approach coaches are using to describe their opponents. Coach Whittingham says KVN isn't that special and is basically a run of the mill PAC12 linebacker.

Coach Anae says that there is no doubt Utah is the best defense they've played.

I don't see the offense ever having as easy a time running as they had against TX. That was their last chance to sneak up on an opponent with that one, but Taysom has shown that he is a much better passer than he has been in the last two games. I think we have every reason to hope for a much improved passing attack in the future, and the future starts Saturday.

All we need is a little balance out of the passing game to turn the running game loose. We only need a better offense than last year, which I believe we will have, and we win, because the D will hold :utard: . GO COUGS!!!!

Either a QB has the natural ability to throw a football or he doesn't. It's rather obvious Taysom isn't a traditional BYU QB who can throw - he is a Tim Tebow type which plays right into the strength of the Ute D. Hill is 22 of 67 passing on the season... you don't go from being a 33% passer to having all the tools to shred a defense over the top in one week, in fact, either you have it or you don't... you can't teach a guy to throw a football... it is a natural ability that you either have or don't have, period. If BYU had a QB who could throw, I'd pick them in this game, but they don't and it plays to Utah's advantage. By the way, it's 'lose', not 'loose'.

Tim Tebow led the nation in passer rating in 2009 at 164.2 completing 67.2% of his passes.

Tim Tebow was #4 in the nation in passer rating in 2008 at 172.4 completing 64.4% of his passes.

Tim Tebow was #2 in the nation in passer rating in 2007 at 172.5 completing 66.9% of his passes.

I can only hope Taysom Hill is a Tim Tebow type of QB.

i agree that utah's match up against our offense is ideal for them. I do however think you underestimate byu's ability to run the ball. taysom and jamal or elite. You don't set an all time running record on texas if you are not. was texas overrated yes. but they are still better than you give them credit. also we took out their qb and starting running back. so the lose to ole miss has an asterisk in my opinion. also go one of their main coaches fired.

taysom hill can throw the ball. he is just young and limited in experience. we will see if we can establish the run on utah. if we can, byu will win because taysom won't be forced to win with his arm. he is good at managing a game. he is smart and while turnovers can and may happen he does a good job limiting them.

You act like he will have to play like mannion to win the game. you and i both know that utah won't score on our defense as much as they scored on osu and you and I both know that our running game is better than osu's.

Are you suggesting that a QB can't improve his throwing over time? Throwing Motion, release etc can all be refined and perfected. I'm really not sure what you meant with that comment. FWIW Taysom throws a good looking ball and has a ton of velocity. The problem "could" be in the speed or some mechanic that hurts his accuracy. I'm pretty sure it's something that can be worked out.

There is going to be a bunch of nervous energy in the stands. BYU fans are going to be nervous for the first sign of bad play. We're going to be afraid of things turning south real quick and the game snowballing.

BYU players might be thinking the same thing. Yes, they should be going into the game confident, but they may wonder/worry about things getting out of control to. Especially if there is an early turnover.

Spot on. This has been the case for Byu so many times recently. By the time we regain our composure we have given up to many points.

Mental toughness is a must. There will be times when a TO or penalty take us out of it. I'm looking forward to seeing the cougars answer the bell and be the mentally tough team out their on Saturday.

At the same time the above approach almost seems like one foot on the gas pedal and one foot on the brake--kind of like a new driver would do.

Detmer was all one speed. No fear. "one turnover" and fear should set in? What?

I'm not saying be reckless, but we saw what a chained and unchained THill looks like.

Play your game!! Trying to avoid a loss will get just that. Go all out!! Dont leave anything on the table! A loss like that will be far less indicting than playing it safe (3 runs up the middle and then a field goal. Duh. Cost Anae his job)

Pedal to the Metal!!

I was speaking towards "past performance playing role in future performance".

I believe that a players mental stability can be shook when a turnover happens. Max Hall in 09' looked shaken in that game and ended with 5 ints in a game that was closer than the score showed. The snow ball effect is a very real possibility when you have a past of it.

I'm not suggesting that the players need to be tentative, but they need to be aware that it has been an issue and find ways to work around it.

The next time Airwolf84, wolfie, wolfman or whatever the hell he is calling himself these days says something positive about BYU will be his first. STOP FEEDING THE TROLL. No amount of logic is going to change the troll, just don't acknowledge his existence and he will leave.

Sorry, I was eluding to Tebow's stint in the NFL so far, not his performance at Florida. Tebow is having trouble sticking in the NFL right now because of his poor passing ability.

Fried Butter, do you consider Hill capable as a passer?

Hill is capable, just not exceptional right now. He'll improve, starting Saturday night.

Most coaches will tell you that you can ascertain a player's overall passing ability before, during and after spring/fall camps - Ammon Olsen was clearly the better passer at all times in camp - Hill is a runner and a scrambler and that plays right into Utah's strength on D which is why I think BYU comes up short in this game. Taysom isn't going to suddenly go 22 for 30 for 300+ yards... if he does, then the Utes are as bad against the pass as Texas is against the run, but we saw what it took from Oregon State to win and that was Mannion throwing for 400+ - Hill will not be able to do that... not even close.

Ah. You were alluding to the NFL eluding him. Carry on, no point in word usage precluding irrelevant analysis.

Steve Young tells us that when he came to BYU he couldn't pass the ball, but learned by modeling Jim McMahon and working at it. He became a pretty good passer if I recall. Throwing a football has everything to do with developing a skill, not being born with it.

I see that Wolfie just repeats something over and over until he really believes it is true.

Wolf is right. He just has the wrong context and is missing the complete picture. Yes. OSU had no ability to even slow down the Utes after their offense adjusted until OSU defense finally figured out what to do in OT. So they had a track meet. So Mannion had to throw 400+ without turning it over to win the track meet, because Mannion is a pure pocket passer and is not capable of running for much.

So Wolf left out some of that context.

BYU is not much like OSU. Good and Bad comes from that. BYU defense is much better and will contain Wilson better even without Hadley and will bring even more pressure on him. U will score 50% fewer points. Hill can run. With J Dub, assuming he is healthy, and TH both capable of breaking big runs, U will slow them down a bit compared to Texas - but they cannot shut it completely down. Hoffman, if 100%, will make some big plays even if passes are not thrown perfectly. If U stacks the box, Hoffman is going to create mismatches.

Wilson will test the BYU secondary when he has time. He will not often have much time, however. He might throw some picks or drop it taking a hit.

This will be a dog fight. U does not quit. Y is up for this one.

He also roots for BYU to lose. I'm very familiar with this guy from the now defunct Cougarblue forum. He has some axe to grind with BYU and, while not a Ute fan per se, is basically rooting for anyone who plays the Cougs.

There's something to be said for taking off the blue goggles and looking at things objectively. But he always takes the glass is half empty approach to BYU while hoping his analysis is proven correct.
