BYU Favored, Utah Coming Off an OT Loss

Exactly the same situation as last year. We were favored by 4 and Utah had just lost in OT to USU. This year we are favored by 7 (for now, it will shrink as the week goes on) and Utah just lost in OT. In every way we will have a repeat of last year.



I have a very good friend who was on the team in 2005 who sent me a text last night that said, "Why can't I believe in us?"



The only answer I had was that we haven't risen to the occasion once since Bronco has been the HC. I hope this year is different but I don't believe it is.



BYU, unfortunately, will find a spectacular way to lose. Again.

It is nothing like last year. We're not starting a QB with a broken back. Our center isn't going up against a top 10 NFL draft pick.



But I do think we can find a way to lose spectacularly. I'm partial to the bungled snap and Utah returns it for a touchdown. After all the defensive touchdowns and extremely short fields we've given them, I'd prefer one of those. Keep that streak of gawd awful plays going. Plays so bad they're humorous.

If our fans at the game feel the same as you two. LES will have some of the strangest energy in that stadium, and we won't have a chance.



Everyone says Utah has the best luck with us. Everything goes in their favor.



We have a lot of things going for us. Not only that... We finally have a section that has students in it. Can you believe that?!?!



They're going to try and contain Hill. They won't be expecting Hill to complete a single pass. Anae knows what he is doing. Things have been very quite with Hill and his game this past week.



Van Noy hasn't beat Utah once in his career. A few haven't. I bet he's coming in with a chip on his shoulder. I wouldn't be surprised is Wilson leaves the game due to injury, like Ash did. He's going to take a beating.



Something is brewing. I can't wait!

Several years ago the utes were thinking that BYU had it over on them. Edwards and the Cougars dominated them until McBride came along. The difference was the Y won by much bigger margins than the utes have in the last few years. These things can turn around. I hope this is the year.

Yah, the :sick: has been lucky in the last few years as we have imploded each year, but you have to see that we had a pretty lucky streak with them before that pulling out victories at the last minute.



Time for the pendulum to swing again! :crazy:

This has me terrified. It seems every year this gives Utah points. Last year it gave them 7 and would have given them 14 had krueger not face masked nelson in the endzone.

Utah has to get momentum plays to beat us. If we do not give them to them, we win this year going away. If we do, they could nip us.

I agree with everything that is said here. The problem is that the center-QB exchange has been a problem this year. Same as last year. We gave up 2 pts against UVA and luckily no points against Texas, but everything points to it happening against Utah. With nerves and emotions in this game, I am expecting a TD to be given up because of a bad snap and that will be the difference.

BYU players might be thinking the same thing. Yes, they should be going into the game confident, but they may wonder/worry about things getting out of control to. Especially if there is an early turnover.

This game will come down to THill to show improvements in passing game, If U stacks the box THill will have golden opportunities to showcase his arm. If he can pass effectively, BYU will take over this game bc U will be confused as to what's next.

Or if the Ewetes stack the box, THill can run around the box, just like he did against Texas. Go watch his 30-yard TD run in the 3rd quarter. Texas stacked the box. Watch the third BYU drive in the third quarter. THill ran for 20 yards and then JW ran for 24 yards on back-to-back plays with 8 Texas defenders in the box.



BYU ground attack is the rill dill.

THill will need to either break containment with his arm or legs. If he can throw over the stacked box or break through that first level, he'll have a huge day as all the defenders are crossing the line of scrimmage.

At the same time the above approach almost seems like one foot on the gas pedal and one foot on the brake--kind of like a new driver would do.

Detmer was all one speed. No fear. "one turnover" and fear should set in? What?

I'm not saying be reckless, but we saw what a chained and unchained THill looks like.

Play your game!! Trying to avoid a loss will get just that. Go all out!! Dont leave anything on the table! A loss like that will be far less indicting than playing it safe (3 runs up the middle and then a field goal. Duh. Cost Anae his job)

Except the Utah D-Ends won't crash, which is why Taysom was so open on the ends.

I totally disagree. If BYU players think they "might" lose... Then, why are they wearing BYU uniforms then??? Why do they practice and put their blood, sweat, and tears into this team??? I have so many examples to prove you wrong on this. We might as well start with Utah to begin with the examples.



They flat(Utah) out expected us to win. Then one game... They won. Utah with Alabama.



BYU with Oklahoma. BYU with Texas. BYU with Miami.



Whatever game you want. There are plenty of them.



If there's no hope/faith. You ain't got nothing. All you have is your stats.

I can't imagine the :utard: offense having a good evening on Sat. KVN has fire shooting out of his eyes after 3 losses. He will be pitching a tent in the :utard: backfield, and he will have the rest of his buddies just as fired up. Just like at TX, one blocker won't slow him down much, and when they double and triple team him, Fua, BK and EM will have a heyday.

We have seen what KVN is capable of when he is really fired up, and he won't disappoint.



I don't see the offense ever having as easy a time running as they had against TX. That was their last chance to sneak up on an opponent with that one, but Taysom has shown that he is a much better passer than he has been in the last two games. I think we have every reason to hope for a much improved passing attack in the future, and the future starts Saturday. All we need is a little balance out of the passing game to turn the running game loose. We only need a better offense than last year, which I believe we will have, and we win, because the D will hold :utard: . GO COUGS!!!!

Detmer was never in a game that he didn't think he was going to win. It didn't matter how far behind he was, he was always playing, not to make a good showing, but to win. That's why he was so good.
