I want bronco around one more year and then reevaluated. I think he should be told as much.
Those of us who are frustrated with bronco are citing the following:
1. Regardless of final record and rankings, it feels like we should have been better. We lost games we probably shouldn't have. We underperformed in our biggest games. We have been emberassed several times, including at home. Our teams have seemed underprepared for big games. We seem to get out coached in most games. We seem to fail to make adjustments. Team doesn't live up to hype started by the coaches. I would rather go 9 and 3 with some close loses and wins against good teams than 11 and 1 with a boring schedule.
2. Our coaches seemed to have plateaued and momentum stalled and going backwards. Brinco seemed to be at Lear moving in the right direction 4 years ago. We gave him a pass for 2010 considering it a rebuilding year. Two rebuilding years later (tic since this was a senior laden team) and it really seems like broncos coaching, decisions and overall direction his taking the team is digressing.
3. We have lost our status as big brother in the state and can feel step brother rising up right behind us. Arguably, this is just as important as overall record at the end of the year. Being #1 on state, especially if dominate, would alone keep bronco off hot seat.
4. Byu football has become boring. The games just aren't much fun to watch any more even though I have been more invested the last few years than ever before. Our bend but don't break defense is pretty efficient against poor to average defenses and usually helpless against good offenses. But it is boring! Our offense hasn't had any real flash for three years. I actually get bored watching our games am have never heard les so consistently quiet before. It just isn't as fun and exciting as it used to be and should be.
5 he doesn't like us or think highly of us and it shows.
6 his lack of emotion most of the time, especially for the offense, most of us don't like or can't relate to.
Give him one year to deliver on his promises, learn from his mistakes and show real improvement. If not, time to move on.
And please, let's stop comparing him to lavell. Lavell was a good coach and took byu from crap to pretty good. We need a coach who can take us from pretty good to nationally competitive. With all the top notch lds athletes coming around, many if which going to other programs, including the u, you can't tell me the talent isn't out there for byu to be a consistent 10 and 2 r 9 an 3 program with a big 12 schedule with the occasional 5 or 6 lose rebuilding seasons and 0 or 1 lose magic seasons. So far we have no magic seasons and 3 straight rebuilding seasons. That rightly puts a coach on the hot seat!
