So, um, wow. Besides jonnylingo's statement about it being "all the buzz" that Franchuck did what people in this thread are talking about, is there any evidence that it actually happened? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Franchuck fan. But when people start talking about getting violent, branding with the scarlet letter, and looking for him at games to do who knows what, I think maybe some evidence of wrongdoing might be in order. As an outside observer, it sounds to me like people hate this guy and are just waiting to find something else that could justify the hatred. This "buzz" was mentioned and then holy cow, damn the torpedos, full speed ahead! Next thing we know people are virtually burning his effigy. Seems a bit much, but apparently some of you feel more strongly about this than I do.

Apparently, Franchuk had a twitter post about something going down with hoops prior to anything else going public. So that is the smoking gun people are areferring to. Along with PK on 1320 KFNZ stating that it was Franchuk, and he was right to do it. So, yeah, there are those things.

If this is the case, we as fans should 1. Call for his resignation and 2. Boycott that sorry excuse for a newspaper. If he truly did what he did, well, that is not journalism. That is tarnishing the names of two student-athletes (Davies' girlfriend is a volleyball player) and affecting a basketball program in such an adverse way. If sometime he comes out and admits that he did that I hope I can be the first to call for his resignation.

And for Franchucks sake, don't let him accidentally wander around Missouri or Kansas, or I will have misdemeanor assault on my record for life and he'll have a broken jaw. (felony if my brother and best friend weren't attornies)



Having any interest in breaking this story or telling BYU that if they don't that he will, is as cowardly as it gets. A kid had sex, get over it; and let the rightful people handle it.

Franchuk writes like he has a chip on his shoulder when he covers BYU. I sent him a message calling him out a couple of years ago that he could become the premier BYU sports guy if he so wanted. Obviously, he doesn't want to be.

He ended whatever career he had in Utah over this matter. BYU will not trust him or work with him anymore.

See, this is where I think the HC Office BYU really, really messed up. They got suckered by a sorry excuse for a journalist. There is no public record. No law is broken. No valid, 3rd party source to verify the story EXCEPT for BYU and BYU played the fool and verified the story for Franchuck. What was Franchuck's source? A friend of a friend. A rumor?



Any half decent PR rep would call Franchuck's bluff. Franchuck couldn't have gone to his editor and sold that story, he would have been written up on libel or slander. Franchuck needed BYU to confirm and BYU played right into him. IDIOTS!!!



The HC Office BYU needs to have a policy that they do not comment on HC violations on any of its students, unless the activity is deemed to be illegal. At that point the activity was not deemed to be illegal. There should have been a "no comment" from the HC Office BYU. IDIOTS!!!

I fixed my error. It wasn't the HC Office that mishandled the situation. It was BYU.

So obviously media members are going to come to the aid of Franchuck now... but unless he wasn't involved at all, I don't care if the HC knew before he told them or not.



The issue is whether or not he held a journalistic gun to their heads about this.



If he did, then he should be done in Utah.

Already Gurney is saying we ought to lay off Franchuuk because the HC office knew about Davies before Franchuk did. My response: What does the timing of Franschmuk have to do with the approporiateness of demanding a response because he's going public?

Franchuck is not a BYU grad. He went to Kansas. He doesn't even live in Provo or Utah Valley. He lives with his girlfriend up in SLC.
