Did Franchuck Force BYU's Hand?

Its all the buzz that Franchuck went to byu and said i am going to run with this. Interesting twist. Wonder if its true. Different version are coming out and I would think Franchuck will address it at some point.



If it is true that Davies was already working on this with his Bishop and Franchuck got wind and decided that he was going to go public with it, he is disgusting.

Sadly, it feels like something I could see him doing. Him or Monson.

Yes, Franchuck is probably tired of being irrelevant and saw an opportunity. Hard to know what is true at this point.

Actually I think Monson would have some discretion in the matter. Youre spot on about the irrelevancy of Fan-chuks career and his need for something big.

wow and to think that poor Michele P had some tough pushback. If this is true, Fan-chuck would be cast out of provo over time.

If it is true, I hope he gets the cold shoulder from fans and BYU for quite a while. I understand he has a job to do, but he was willing to nail a 19 year year old kid who broke no laws in order to do it. I wish he had given BYU more time to sort it out. They clearly were not prepared, and fumbled a bit with their hastiness. I am sure that will not happen again.

If it is true I hope the local people cancel newpaper subscriptions and national people stop going to their website. Maybe after Franchuk leaves then they can subscribe again.

If this is true, do you ttink he would really show up to BYU's game tomorow? Maybe not enough people would know yet and he wouldnt be in danger.

If it is true, lets hope Karma catches up. He could use his own Scarlet letter.

If this is true I am disgusted, not only at Franchuck, but at BYU for a reactionary move. If they suspended while he was working on things with his bishop, without a recommendation from the bishop to do so; then this is one of the worst things I have heard of, and I will lose a lot of respect for the TH and anyone that had a decision in this.



You never, ever, EVER kick a man while he is down trying to get up. If Davies was working on things, and his bishop felt he was making enough progress (and his gf isn't pregnant) then this is one of the saddest things I have ever heard of. Not only from a rankings standpoint, but from a personal standpoint.



If this is true, then Franchuck becomes the scum of the earth, and the BYU AD gets seriously diminished in my eyes. Would it have been so hard for the BYU AD to say



"We haven't previously heard of these allegations. What Davies is or isn't doing is between him, his ecclesiastical leader (bishop), and the Lord - until such point that his leader feels it appropriate to recommend suspensions or some other action from the institution."



"We will verify things on our side of the story, and whatever the circumstances would be, we hope the best for the student and it is our goal to help him achieve it, through whatever means necessary to achieve those purposes."



Would something like that really have been hard? It would have been very proper in my eyes. If someone is going to shoot someone you know, you don't go get a gun and shoot them first (before the others' get around to it)!



IF this is true, I will have lost a lot of respect for BYU and the intrusion of privacy between the bishop and a member. And how did Franchuck know? What is his "source?"



(I have been on the receiving end of my bishops overstepping their bounds, and a repentance process made public when I was about 15, and it almost made me leave the church. The whole thing was an overreaction between two bishops that talked to each other about people's confessions, and I got dragged into the middle, and because of it, I couldn't trust that bishop ever again. I had him for almost 4 years after that, and though the matter he was overstepping his bounds was trivial, I got into some semi-serious stuff later on, and had noone to turn to until we changed Bishops again. A girl and I were kissing (just smooches), and she thought we were committing sexual sins so she talks to her bishop, whose daughter is married to my bishops son. He passes it on, and my bishop calls me in and tells me that I am basically having sex with girls, that I need to break up with that girl, and start seriously repenting. He wouldn't believe that I wasn't doing anything more than just kissing like teenage kids do. That girl was my first real kiss, and I was hers, hence the overreaction by her. So I was basically labeled as a sex-fiend by my bishop at a young age. It was pretty out of control)



and I'm not saying the bishop overstepped his bounds in this case. But if this is true it's clear that someone did, and that is unacceptable. Hopefully we can figure out who it was, and they will have to go through the same kinds of things Brandon has had to go through (if any/all of this is true)

If this is why it was so swift and unreasonable for the crime. Then I hope he endures the same humiliation that Brandon and his girlfriend have had to.

So I was walking around Provo the other day, just minding my own business, when this dorky looking guy came up to me and told me after a great deal of investigation that he had discovered that I hadn't completed my home teaching in almost 6 months, even though I had reported to my HT District Leader that I had 100% HT visits during those months. He told me he was the BYU beat writer for some Provo rag (can't remember the name, dangit), and said that he talked to my EQ president and that he informed my EQ prez that he was going to run the story in said rag, and was giving me the chance to "come clean" with my EQ president. So I went and talked to my EQ president, and got suspended from HT for 6 months, and had to issue an apology over the pulpit at the next fast/testimony meeting.



True story.

It pains me to say this, but we can just accept the "stinking fish"--(this whole debacle) in the front room and say "all is well" or we can continue to search for answers and be incensed by the wrongs that have been committed against Brandon and his fellow teammates.

Okay, so I went there and demanded that Franksmuck tell us if the rumors and true. But otherwise I rarely make my way to that crummy place.

Tough balance, but here is the issue I have with this story if Franchuk did force the issue. NO LAWS WERE BROKEN. Basically, it was an internal university policy that he chose to use to out a 19 year old kid. No public record on it because none existed. If it was a legal issue, I get that he has to run with it. It is public record. But it was a personal issue were no laws of the land were broken. Yes, a BYU internal policy may have been violated, but that is it. So Franchuk chose to stand on the back of a 19 year old kid in order to raise his own profile. I consider it shameless, if true. Seriously, writing an article that a 19 year old kid might have had sex with his girlfriend while at BYU is shameless. Absolutely shameless. And for a BYU Grad who understands the policy, even worse.
