Any Heimuli News???

I know it's a long shot. I was hoping some good recruiting news about Ricky Heimuli might "shake out" after the Army Invitational Football Game this past Sat.



Does anybody have any inside scoop?????

Does the Y even have a chance?????

Our big recruiting weekend is right on the horizon. All the guys will be there; some like Travis Tuiloma have yet to even make any trip to Provo. I'm sure Heimuli will be there; though his interest in BYU remains to be seen. The recruiting weekends = good food, snowmobiling, etc. etc. etc.

I would be surprised if Heimuli's cuz isn't his chaperone.

Let's just hope they ALL behave themselves this year.



With Apo, Stout, Fua, Q, Heaps and others there, I think they'll do what they can to reel in anyone on the fence.

BYU doesn't provide recruits with dates, that's Tennessee :lol:

It's usually a weekend with a home bball game they can take the players to so they can feel the fans' energy. BYU plays at home this Saturday against CSU. So I'm guessing it'll be this weekend.

The most important thing they could do is be friendly & connect. Hopefully there was that opportunity. Hopefully it will have an impact on Ricky. If he would choose the Y .... man ...... what an impact he would have.



By the way - just saw on the local news Pete Carroll's made it official - he signed a contract w/ the Seahawks & is leaving USC. Already some USC verbal commits have de-committed. If Ricky was looking at USC - the loss of Coach Carroll could give him pause.

Yea, don't you love it when folks around here link articles that others can't read? I agree that we should have to pay for the info if it's from a site like Scout or Rivals as that is how they make their money, but I don't like it when people who have access to either of those sites or others like them (ESPN Insider) tell us that what we want to know is explained there. They might as well keep it to themselves.



Drew, Dickinson, Harmon, et al will usually mention items they see on those sites just very blandly, with full disclosure as to their source, but they never usually provide a link to something their readers can't get to and I wish those on this site would refrain from doing the same. Link away on Scout or Rivals for those that can access the articles or mention something very blandly, but don't link us to info we can't get to. For me personally that practice sucks. Those that can will alreadly know they can see the information in detail and that's why they paid for that priviledge.

It's not that Heimuli was leaning to USC. But, USC has tremendous recruiting power & it would be a consideration, if even a distant consideration, and perhaps give him some second thoughts about committing to either Utah or Oregon. Now that USC is downgraded (due to Carroll leaving) - it just makes the decision process cleaner & clearer. I hope Ricky has a good experience @ the Y during his recruiting visit. I hope the Cougs have a shot @ Ricky. He's a great talent.

I wasn't aware that Ricky even had plans to visit BYU on a recruiting visit.

Along those same lines I think that Carroll's leaving USC destabilizes recruiting in the Pac10 beyond its immediate impact on USC. The entire conference had a horrible year last year (though some writers have labeled it "parity"). Oregon got their ducks handed to them by an unimpressive Ohio State team in a sloppy rose bowl. The rest of the conference failed to show up in their bowl games except for UCLA and USC (who now has recruiting violations hanging over its head). The Pac10's stock price was falling even before Carroll sold all his shares and took his second best recruiter with him. Now the conference is in freefall, recruits are decommitting left, right, and center and if I were a recruit I would have to REALLY want to play for a specific team to look past the downside right now.

IF there is a class to get Heimuli, it is this one. more non-LDS kids, and some LDS kids in it on the record to not serve. Equals less pressure that way.



I honestly think that if Heimuli does not choose BYU, it is because of the 3-4 scheme. He is a great fit in a 4-3 for sure, and may not like playing NT in the 3-4 or playing NT inside an LB on the end and getting doubled on every play for sure. If I were Ricky, scheme would matter to me a ton. Hope we get him, but I think we won't.

Agreed. USC Alumni & local buzz had USC going after the Oregon St. HC Riley. Riley has beaten USC 2x & they really like him. So - over the weekend "O St." signed Riley to a deal - extending to 2019!! They have him for the rest of his Head Coaching life.



This does have a ripple impact on recruiting @ USC, throughout the PAC 10 & into other Conferences who will be the beneficiaries of USC de-commits & wavering un-commits who will cross USC off their short list.

As the USC AD, you really have to hate the Seattle Seahawks. Their timing of taking USC's coach couldn't have come at a worse time for USC.

Word. USC finishes 5th in the Pac10, plays in the type of bowl that USC isn't used to playing in, has a cloud of NCAA violation allegations hanging overhead, and then, just when the HC is about to provide the type of continuity that makes HCs worth all the money they get paid (by landing a top 5 recruiting class and righting the ship after a down year) he bails on the program and takes the OC with him with enough time before signing day for every single verbal commit to make a few visits to non-USC schools.
