At least we have this to put on the calendar for later this month. 20 days away! the State of the Program address is always fun as something gets shared there to get people excited (future game series, etc).

Probably something related to the schedule. I have no idea what else.

Would be nice to know about how summer conditioning is progressing and players who are standing out. Would also like to know about status of Charles West (eligibility) and health of Jamaal Williams.

Holmoe dropped a hint that the 2017 schedule is going to look nasty difficult. At the Coaches Circle dinner, Bronco said, "If you think the 2015 road schedule looks tough, just wait til you see 2016." And then Holmoe chipped in, "And then wait until you see 2017!"

But hey. Won't it be great seeing 3-9 and 4-8 seasons all so we can get great teams in our, I mean on the road. Death wish? You bet. TH is selling out bronco, the program, and the fans. I've been beating this drum and will continue. There will be blood.

Obviously 2017 has 7 road games so there may be some adjustments going on here but 2016 is a very tough schedule. But its part of the deal of going P5 (which BYU is efforting). Just ask Utah.

Here's the problem with a number of posters lamenting the upcoming difficult schedule. BYU does not want to face again the 1984 comment from Brian Gumbel regarding who they played ("Bo Diddly Tech"). There has been marked improvement in recruiting talent and coaching changes just not yet translated on the field success (three seasons of 8-5). However, the teams that BYU has played have been markedly more difficult than in the early Independent years and personnel have changed. Anae version 2.0 is better than 1.0. Our new S&C coach (Wintrich) is much improved as is our OL coach (2J), our WR coach (Holliday) and RB coach (Atuaia). Recruiting Poly's is a focus as is focusing on TX and other geographic locations where BYU is now playing (i.e. CT, FL,

TN, MS, MO, etc.). BYU is now paying of the best athlete's stipend amounts ($4,000+) so they are competitive with other P5 schools. They are recognized by the SEC, ACC as a P5 worthy school. They are regularly playing many P5 schools in the regular season and good ones. While BYU is making more than they did in the MWC so are the other P5 schools. Independence is the best option until they can join a P5 conference. In the meantime, they must separate themselves from the other mid-majors which means playing difficult teams at challenging venues so that they can make their case when they have a good record. To think that they will go 2-9, 3-8 is ludicrous and the height of negativity, as this is not their goal nor will they tolerate this. The future looks bright at QB with Mangum and Jared Hall et. al. in the pipeline. As goes the QB position and strength of leadership, so goes the team. The future path forward is what is best for BYU given the circumstances. Enough said.

The day is here! Hopefully we hear some good stuff. I'm going to try and listen to the state of the program address but have a work call at the same time so it will just be on in the background. haha



PS: I already have the sports radio crowd's discussion figured out for this afternoon...they will complain about how many times people said BYU is "unique" and Gordon Monson will criticize the continental breakfast for not being a big enough spread. :lol:

Holmoe indicated that while BYU didn't get help early on in scheduling as an independent, teams are working with them now on their schedule. An example is the American Athletic Conference.

It does appear that Tulsa already has 12 games scheduled for 2016 without the Toledo game but I'm not sure if that is a recent change in response to the Toledo game move.

Toledo and BYU will meet in 2016 and 2019, the Rockets’ athletic department announced today.



The 2016 contest will close out Toledo’s non-conference schedule. That game will be played September 30 in Provo. The 2019 outing will be played in Toledo on September 28.



“We are very pleased to add the series with BYU to our football schedule,” said Toledo VP and athletics director Mike O’Brien in the release. “BYU has an excellent football tradition and will be a very attractive opponent on our 2019 home schedule. We also look forward to making the trip to Provo, Utah next season.”



The schools have never faced each other.



Toledo also announced the addition of FCS opponents Maine (2016) and Elon (2017) to their schedule.
