He has dominated teams in the same conference, he will recruit better and have more talent. It is truly amazing that he had BSU contending to play in NC......if you cannot see that is amazing I don't know what to say. He played with the top teams in the country and beat them, did not take solice in playing it close)
Please tell me is record vs ranked teams and compare that to other top coaches, I would love to see it.....can't wait see how you justify this (which you will). On a percentage basis he competes with anyone with inferior talent, recruiting, resources etc. Must be luck? Must be from Hawkins 8 years ago, silly!
I havw postex several times in this thread that Petersen is a good coach
I am just not ready to attribute deity to him till I see him do it week in and week out. Very good hire for UW. Very good opportunity for CP.
Here is why I take the SHOW ME approach.
Way back in the 80s probably or early 90s BYU Basketball was 17-0 and ranked #2 in both polls. #1 had lost that day. All BYU needed to do was beat unranked UAB that night - BYU was heavily favored - to become #1. UAB played the finesse, sharp shooting Cougars very physically. BYU lost by 30. Embarassed. It was not a fluke. Other teams learned from UAB and BYU was barely above 500 the rest of the way.
When you play a tough schedule week in and week out - excellent coaches every week are trying their strategy with good athletes executing it.
The odds of one of them cracking the code and showing the others in your schedule how to expose you too, is much, much higher than if you play 1 or at most 2 of those teams per year.
Think Utah this year showing Wisc and ND how to not let Hill go TEXAS all over them. MTSU and others could not follow the recipe - But Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, ASU, AZ, and others often would be able to. Texas might be able to right niw.
Then injuries take their toll weekly. No more luxury of sitting key players out to avoid injury in a blowout, or to heal a bad sprain. Depth.
That is what CP will get to prove at UW. He just might do it, too. I am happy to wait and see. I am a closet UW fan. Gonna be fun to follow.
