Bib,

I think he can get to 10+ wins a year, it will take 3 years or so IMO. Urban walked into a ton of talent both places. UW has talent but not like Florida or OSU had.

He will recruit much better at UW than BSU. There is a reason UCLA, USC, UW etc etc all had interest in him.

Well. Worst case he makes $10M during the transition.

BTW Urban Meyer did not start his rise at Utah. He came thete from Ball State or somewhere if that ilk. He did not need a 3-year transition at U. He did not need a transition at F. He did not need a transition at The OSU. He would not have needed one at ND had he not turned them down.

CP will probably do fine at UW. Odds are greatly against CP bringing a NC Trophy to UW.

It was Bowling Green. He would have needed one year 3 at ND, year 1-2 he would have been good.

CP was the brains behind Hawkins who rode CP's coattails to CU for big bucks and then a massive flame out. CP will do fine, but I think he would've prospered at SC. Oh well. CP is an offensive genius. I think we should have known something was up this year when CP turned offensive playcalling over to an assistant.....Playcalling was more vanilla than many past years. Less multiple formations, less TE, less execution.....

Make that $15M during the transition. Five year contract. He deserves it.

Read a review on CBS Sports who overall felt Peterson is an upgrade over Sark. They called Petetson a Top 10 TACTICAL COACH, but indicated concerns about big stage recruiting and ability to handle media and booster circus in a place like USC.

UW is a much better fit for CP than USC.

Back to BSU scheduling.

BSU had 4 opponents with 8 or more wins this season. Throw in SDSU with 7 wins as another decent opponent. Out of Fresno State, UW, USU, BYU, and SDSU, BSU only beat USU. Ironically, UW thrashed them.

This is a much tougher average schedule than BSU normally plays. No Top 10 opponenrs, but 5 teams that were dangerous. Down year results. Coincidence. Maybe. Maybe not.

When taking over an 8-4 team, Fans will not expect to wait 3 years for a genius to get them to 10 wins. If he is as good as everyone thinks he is, he should get 10 wins next season.

BTW, USC fans would not have been wanting to hear transition excuses, schollie limits not withstanding. The had an interim coach that got them back to being respecrable. They will expect Sark to not skip a beat in 2014 with 10 or more wins and have them back in NC discussion in 2015.

Cursory look indicates that Michigan State - loss, BYU - win by 1 point 7-6 after Hill missed open receiver on 2-point conversion, and SDSU - loss were the toughest regular season oppinents.

BYU did go 8-5 with bowl win over SDSU iirc. Can't remember if SDSU and MSU had 8. Pribably did.

Regular season. BSU lost 2 of 3 to decent oppinents before nipping WASHINGTON by 2 in LV Bowl. Not sure if UW had 8 wins.

11-2 is a down year for BSU. Down mainly because they actually olayed 4 decent enough teams. No killers on the schedule.

Go look at the up years. Undefeated years. 1-loss years. Schedule plays a part.

2011 Cursory look

Regular season -

Georgia on the road - season opener - Win. Great time to catch lightening in a bottle when you have a great QB with experience. Georgia started out 0-2, won 10 in a row, and then lost its last 2. Four losses, but this was a very good Georgia team.

TCU - 1-point loss at home. Moral victory of sorts. This was an 11-2 TCU team that feasted on a weak schedule as well. Lost to a goid Baylor team and lost to SMU and never beat anyone of note other than BSU.

Not any other big challenges.

Bowl Game. Las Vegas Bowl. Beat ASU. ASU finished with a losing record at 6-7 after starting 6-2 and then losing their last 5 including BSU.

The CP Legacy has a foundation of cupcakes spiced up with 1 or occasionallt 2 lightening in a bottle wins every 2 years or so.

USC and UW are totally different. You are comparing apples and oranges recruiting wise. UW does not have the expectations of USC, nor the talent. CP can be 8-4 (leaving off where Sark was) and be fine for a year or two with a big pick-up year 3.

Do you think Nick Saban is a good coach? He has yet to hit the ground running anywhere.

Michigan State:

Year 1: 6-5-1

Year 2: 6-6

Year 3: 7-5

Year 4: 6-6

Year 5: 9-2

Note MSU does not have the talent level of other schools, can't compare this to Urban's ascent at OSU

LSU:

Yr 1: 8-4

Yr 2: 10-3

Yr 3: 8-5

Yr 4: NC

LSU was not an immediate turnaround

Alabama:

Year 1: 7-6

Turned it around the second year but lost to Utah in a bowl game

I guess Saban most not be a good coach because he has take 2-4 years to turn it around everywhere he has been? Is the more likely reason it takes a few years to get your system set, recruit players and change the dynamic. Generally year 3 is where things start to turn for coaches, a few recruiting classes that are now upper classmen and change in mindset.

It is silly to expect CP to walk into a new job and go to the Rose Bowl immediately.

The arguments made against CP succeeding at UW could also have been used against Chip Kelly, Urban Meyer, or any of the other successful BCS conference coaches who were first successful in the mid-majors.

I think UW just put on their big-boy pants for the first time since the early 90s.

We get it, you don't buy into CP. I look at results and he has produced, tough to do much better with what he has.....he cannot recruit with the big boys yet consistently beats them. You make excuses for every validation for BSU. He is a winner, the record shows it. Schedule always plays a part, that is an obvious statement, but so does being a good coach. Make as many excuses or justifications as you like, CP is a solid coach. All the programs that have been interested in him must be missing something?

In 2010 BSU lost a game to Nevada (with Kapernick in OT), they should have won and gave it away. If they won they would have played for the NC.....let me repeat that he was one game from the NC AT BSU (not a BCS school)!

Feel free to believe what you will, we won't agree and but he is a great coach. We will see if it continues.

If you don't think that Chris Peterson is an elite coach then you don't know college football.

What I don't get is why as a coach you would pass up USC to get hired at Washington? Was getting a "USC guy" that important to the Trojans that they passed up on the 3rd best coach in college football?

I am curious what the Washington fans think of this. If it were me, I would be like :munch: when Sark left, but now :D to have Peterson.

He may be elite, but we all know he's not as good of a coach as you would be right ;)

After all, he has upper MWC talent, but couldn't even beat an Anae offense this year.

Just teasing :D

Hawk, now you know that Bib2 in his scatterbrained mind is going to "remember" that I "said somewhere" that I was better than Chris Peterson...

Check the 2010 schedule again. 11-3 VT, 10-4 Hawaii, 13-1 Nevada, 8-5 Toledo, 8-5 Fresno St. much harder than this year's schedule

2009- Once again with 4 teams that finished with 8 wins or more. However, it included Pac-10 champ Oregon.

2006- They beat Oregon St. who finished nationally ranked, Hawaii who finished nationally ranked, Utah who was 8-5, Nevada who was 8-5, and SJSU who was 9-4.

We are not talking about juggernaut schedules, but BSU hasn't received a significant bump up in scheduling since joining the MWC. If anything, this year's schedule is one of their easier ones under CP.

He has turned down many many coaching jobs over the years. It would be interesting to compile a list and see why he chose Washington over all the others.

Stanford

Arizona

UCLA

USC

Which others can we add?

It's as if 28,000 Boise State fans cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced, not by being cut off, but just by the fact that 28K in a stadium build for 37k doesn't produce a lot of sound.

He's a big time family guy. His son just graduated from high school, so no more kids in school to uproot. He seemed somewhat detached, as I noted with not even calling the plays on offense. I think he's ready for a new challenge. I am somewhat surprised it is WA.

CP is a good choice at UW... and CP made a good choice to go... the real question is what is UW's viability as a perennial top 25 team when you consider he's basically 3rd place behind Phil Knight and the Ducks and Stanford nearly every year...

I have no doubt that CP is a better HC than Sark... but Nike = Oregon and Stanford = Stanford that's quite the uphill climb.

Best of luck to him and it no doubt is a better job, but it's no easy task that he's taking on.

I do personally believe this puts Boise on par with Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force, Fresno State in a few years... back where they belong

Remember that Boise has been sanctioned by the NCAA for recruiting violations and they are under the gun; also one reason I believe they've headed back to the runner up section of the beauty pageant recently (in addition to Kellen Moore being a fabulous college qb) There are no ryan clady's doug martins etc. on that team right now and they can't break rules to get them now.
B

PS CP has beat Oregon more times that Sark has as a head coach and Sark got shots every year.... ;) I haven't checked the OSU record, although I bet CP has beat them more often too....he took PAC 12 rejects and regularly beat the PAC 12. This year was a down year. Offense was very very vanilla and defense tentative....
