If Anae gets the UNLV job

...Why wouldn't Bronco hire Kragthorpe, who was recently fired from Louisville, to replace him? We all saw what he could do with an offense when he was at Tulsa, up close and personal (nevermind how he mismanaged the defense). And he has strong ties to the state of Utah.

I like the idea. Not sure if Kragthorpe would go for it, but in principle this could be a win win. I assume Kragthorpe would see it as a short-term move, but it could be a great move to help Heaps and Co. get off to a quick start.

I just thought that being a qb, a qb coach, and working with Anae probably would have prepared him well for the job. Perhaps if you left him as the qb coach and brought in Detmer as an OC?



I have a 0-0 record as a head lacrosse coach, but I feel that being a DC and having played the game has prepared me to take on the roll when I get the chance. I hope that people give others a chance to prove themselves and don't count them out simply because they haven't served in that exact capacity before.

True, and good point. Sometimes it's a hit, but other times it's a miss. See: Rose, men's basketball. See: Sanford, UNLV football.



I actually wonder if Sanford might be a better OC than Anae. Or Crowton. I don't think so for either of them. Doman, maybe. Kragthorpe, strong maybe. Any other "pie in the sky" ideas to toss out here while I'm dreaming? Houston's OC perhaps? And I'll say it again, I don't even strongly dislike Anae, he has brought us a long way and a lot of wins...

From what I have heard Robert is the next HC for BYU once Bronco leaves, I don't see him leaving for UNLV.

No, don't worry, I think he will be here for at least 2-5 more seasons, but remember he said, he was not a long term HC.

My vote would be Detmer at OC and Doman as QB coach. Fourteen years in the NFL during which he was known having a great offensive mind is enough for me to think Detmer would be great at OC. I don't know if he'd want the job, but it couldn't hurt to ask.



I actually think Kragthorpe would be a great OC as well, though I'd think he could find a head coaching job somewhere in D-I.



I wonder if Anae were to get the UNLV job and offer the OC job to Doman, would he jump ship to UNLV?

Maybe I got my people wrong, but I was pretty sure it was Robert, but if I was wrong, and Robert is not going to be BYU's next HC, then I can see him leaving to UNLV

I do not believe that anyone was guaranteed the HC job at BYU should Bronco leave or retire. BYU does not do that, and seeing how bad it has worked at Florida State, why would they. But if anyone did get it on staff, it would be Reynolds for sure.



And BYUTIME, go back to your Ute forum--BlockU--and stop trolling as a BYU insider. It really is quite pathetic.

My concern with Anae leaving is the polynesian connection we're potentially losing. How do we keep that in full swing?

We have always had a solid Poly connection due to the fact that many LDS kids on the islands want to play for BYU. Or their parents want them to. That will not change. Ron McBride recruited the Poly's amazingly well. It was all about his attitude, and his doing well in that community is what got the Utes better.



As to a new OC, I am not a huge Kragthorpe guy. The OC that made Tulsa hum was Gus Malzahn, and he is not the OC at Auburn. Kragthorpe was good, Mazlzahn got Tulsa great. I am an alum of their law program, so I follow them a little too.



I think the UNLV job goes to the Steelers RB Coach. He wa sthe runner up last time, he still wants it bad, and he would be a good fit for that town. He is African American, and could recruit LV best and keep kids at home. If he did not get it, or Willingham next on list, I would be surprised.

ps. I also do not support any offense where the whole team lines up into position and then looks back to the sideline for the play. I don't like it, it's gimmicky, and I don't feel like the players get the training they deserve to make it in the next level.

What was Bronco's record as a HC before he got hired by BYU? He has ended up with a pretty good record.
