Two things I can't get over

1) The BYU marching band playing the cougar fight song twice in the 4th quarter. I get that it was in response to the Utah band playing their song and trying to drown out the " :utard: Man" but I didn't like it. One reason I like our song is we only play it when we score. We don't play it whenever we want.



2) How BYU fans could be so euphoric after the win. Did they watch the game? Did they not see us give up a 14-point lead? I was happy about the win, but was more relieved than anything. I certainly feel like storming the field after a game where we escaped with a victory. I was happy, but I certainly wasn't euphoric.

Anytime we beat Utah is worth celebrating. Our W = L for them



But, when you win in sudden death, the emotions are going to flow. I doubt you would have seen such euphoria if we would have built on the 20-6 lead (by handing Harvey the damn ball) but again, it is Utah and I celebrate our success combined with their failure. There was some drama involved in the win, even if there was little question of who the best team was.



This also happened to be the last home game for the winningest QB in BYU history, a 4th straight year of 10 wins, the last home game for the most productive receiver in BYU history (Dennis Pitta), and it was on the heels of the worst BYU/Utah game in memory where Max had the worst game of his career and was beaten up on the radio, papers, and of course by Utah (and some BYU fans) alike.



If you don't want to celebrate fine, but the difference between winning this game and having lost it would be night and day. Had Andrew George dropped that pass and somehow Utah figured out a way to win this game in OT; I promise you that had we lost this game that the tone of every board, newspaper, media outlet, and Ute fan would have been different.



Celebrate that you don't have to deal with that for a year.



Next year should be a real test for us; I'm not sure anyone knows what to expect, but most believe we'll be tested in the majority of our games as we rebuild. Not winning this game would have been a disaster. That's a reason to celebrate.

Good points. Yes, next year is going to be a huge test. An even larger test than the 2007 season was. I think we lose more this year than we lost in 2006 and our unknowns might be even greater next year as well.

I hope somehow we are all pleasantly surprised next year, even if it takes a lot of luck. I really wish we had an experienced QB though....



Maybe, just maybe among our stable of new QBs we have a Detmeresque guy that can blow up defenses from day #1. :)

This makes absolutely no sense to me. Did you mean, "I certainly DON'T feel like storming the field..."? Because a hard-fought, last second victory against your ranked rival seems like the perfect time for doing just that. Besides, have you not watched any of the BYU-Utah games in the last ten years? No matter how good BYU is or how well they play at the start of the game, Utah always manages a way to scrape back and make things painful at the end. If your brain too laden with bad stats to be capable of producing euphoria after a win in this rivalry, I feel bad for you.

And next time, when you hear the media and others are saying that it's BYU's turn for a blowout, just remember the rivalry's recent history to dampen your expectations. I do think it could happen one of these years, but Utah is always fueled by some devilry (I always suspect selling their souls the night before the game) that makes things happen that by the numbers never should have happened.

My 10 year old begged me to let him go down on the field... and I gave in. I don't regret it as we both got to high five several players and my 14 year old even managed to shake hands with Max and George.... They will have some good memories from that game!!!

I wasn't at the game but I was going nuts after George's touchdown! I think I was screaming and yelling more than I ever have at a BYU game. I didn't care that we gave up a lead. I was just pumped that we made a great play and won it in that fashion.

I am not a young kid anymore (53), but my son and I stormed the field. If BYU had built on the 20 to 6 lead in the 4th, we would have simply left the stadium with a smile on our faces. The OT win however, was full of drama and emotion. I was disappointed with our passing game, but this was still a great and dramatic win over a ranked rival, and the relief we felt as George caught that pass was amazing. I think people were comming out of the stands before George crossed the goal line.

As for me - I was @ work down here in So. Calif. - I went crazy over the win! It's a win over the pukey Yewts - and yes - they are classless!!!!

I went on the field for the first time in my life, and it was great. Stunning recovery, rivalry win, tension completely dissipated. All good, though I thought all the police should have been circulating around the NW Utah corner instead of protecting the stupid goalpost.



By the way kitic, congratulations on being honored before the game--so deserved. Although at first I was a little confused and thought your true identity was Larry Echohawk.

I for one have a hard time understanding how in the world you could be disappointing with a win like that?!!!!!!



Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooopie! Way to go out seniors!!!! It would have been HORRIBLE if we lost. Aboslutely horrible. We HAD to win that game. Its the only thing that will keep the mornonic utes off our back for the next year. i may have moved frmo utah if we lost just to avoid having to deal with them.



the seniors deserved to go out with a win as well.



Given what happened last year, its would have been devastating to lose which made the win this weekend SO MUCH SWEETER. most of us and our guys had them game in their head for a whole year. Wonderful to get that monkey off our back.
