Why would you spend time telling your qb that the clock was still running, after he has just run a called qb option? What, a simple thumbs up and a victory formation call is too hard?

I think that Doman called a qb draw, had an "oh shizz" moment when he realized that he could just kneel a victory, and by the time he tried to correct it was too late.

Harmon said Doman called the QB draw, and then realized he made a mistake but couldn't get the TO in time.

If James Lark was BYU's best QB he would have been playing long ago and wouldn't have been demoted behind a freshman straight off his mission.

Signed,

Speaking of BS - sure - Doman and Bronco are going to lie when cameras all over the place and Hill, himself, and the team know what was signaled.

BS for sure.

Sounds like BYU needs to change their victory formation signal if it can easily be confused with run another play.

That is not what happened - THE CLOCK IS RUNNING signal got confused by an inexperienced QB to mean RUN THE PLAY. Then Taysom turned his back before THE VICTORY signal was given. The SNAP came before BRONCO, at DOMAN's request could get time-out called.

Unfortunate.

That is not what happened. Did you ever bother to ask yourself why a coach would tell his qb - who just ran the ball himself and landed inbounds - that the clock was running?

Doman called another play in (signalling with a spinning finger, to run another play.) upon realizing that the game was already in hand, he then proceeded to try to change the call to victory formation, but by that time the play had snapped.

Have you ever seen a coach in college football react to clinching a win with a first down by spinning his fingers in the air? No, you haven't.

Who were the coaches when Hancock was on the roster. Oh, and he played baseball all the way up through fall camp and that is why he was buried on the roster when the season started. Apples and oranges dude apples and oranges.

Yeah, I "logiced" it out before I even read his article. Spinning your finger around in the air universally means "let's run another play!" Watch any qb in the no huddle.

Why would you bother to tell your qb who just ran the ball that the clock was running? This isn't pop warner football.

Yes I have heard of a signal to tell a QB to let the clock run down and of a signal to remind a QB that the click is running.

Bottom line is that BYU has struggled all year on getting plays called timely - often burning timeouts or getting substitution penalties and this time running a play that did not need to be run - that got a freakish injury.

That is on Doman - Bishop Doman.

And the clock is running is the same thing as "get another play in!" isn't it?

There aren't two signals, lol. You wouldn't bother to signal "the clock is running" (one signal) "so get another play in" (different signal).

The universal sign for "run another play" is rolling one finger in the air. Doman gave that. There was no "miscommunication." Doman called another play, and he got one. It injured a player.

It's actually the exact same situation. We don't know if Lark will be any good. Hancock didn't impress during practice. He was fantastic in a game.

Lark might completely suck during games, but we won't know until he is in the game.

You said that if Lark was the best QB, and I am saying that sometimes we don't know until they are in a game.

Doman was the best QB we had in 2000, but we didn't know that until a game either. Just sayin'

Doman would be more accurate. Like I said, Hancock was only buried on the depth chart because he played baseball all through fall camp.

Wrubell confirming on twitter right now. Hill will have season ending surgery to fix multiple injuries in his leg. Wrong call was given to Hill or Hill misinterpreted the "roll the clock" motion to mean, "run the play". Either way, bad idea to be calling a qb draw under the circumstances. Bronco accepting responsibility. Also admitting that the qb is running too much or they need to be avoiding contact when they do. Sad that it took an injury of this magnitude to make the coaches realize this.

According to trainer, Hill will likely not be allowed in spring ball. The ligament-tendon injury is uncommon and will be 4-6 months of healing at a minimum.

disgusting. Again, coaches making changes WAY TOO LATE. why the hell is qb draw the play right there even if there was miscommunication. pure incompetence and hill will pay for it. i don't think i have ever been so mad about anything relating to byu.

You need to just shut up frdbtr. There is ZERO excuse for taysom hill being so severely injured. zero. every single other football team in college or the nfl kneels on that play. the play called into should have been victory formation.

It sure didn't affect some of those "other coaches" when Gifford Nielsen missed time to play baseball as well. I think baseball was a pretext for Norm Chow playing favorites, which is also what kept Doman at the bottom of the depth chart. And now Doman's guilty of playing favorites to the detriment of the team...

Is Doman not capable of calling a time out?

This statement shows a lack of football IQ. When you need a first down to close out the game, you get a first down.

I hope Bronco and Brandon have a discussion this week about protecting Riley Nelson this Sat. against Oregon St. (and for the rest of the year). They need to then call in Riley Nelson and have a clear discussion with him about QB running, sliding feet first, and not being foolish. No more lowering your head and shoulders. Scramble to buy time. Use all the weapons at your disposal to get yards - preserve your body Riley. You are more important than 2 yards on a single play.

The Cougs must get Riley Nelson thru the next 3 games - healthy - to have a chance of winning all 3 (which I think we can). Yes, I think we can beat Oregon St., Notre Dame at home, and Georgia Tech with a healthy Riley Nelson who is prudent and wise.

if bronco and doman were goo leaders that wuold have been done before the wsu game. riley is an idiot and refuses to not pt his head down and ran linebackers. the coaches should have said if you do that you will sit. they needed to protect him from his on grit/stupidity. they needed to protect his health and when riley does those dumb plays yes he is showing his is tough but he was hurting himself and the team. the coaches shoudl have beenon that and told him he wont play if he doesn't stop doing that.

I think only the HC can call a time out from the sideline.

I remember people saying that but not sure I buy it. If you have a player that doesn't participate in fall camp and is still better at his position than anyone else and as a coach you don't play him, you are an idiot.

I am more in the camp that he didn't perform in practice as well as others.

Not going to shut up dude, especially when people keep bitching about the same things over and over. It was an unfortunate incident that happened and everyone on the BYU football coaching staff and team feel bad about it, still doesn't change what happened.

It's too bad BYU saved that play call for the game against Oregon St and Taysom had gotten hurt on the first play of the OSU game instead of the last play of the Utah St game. That would have made the injury so much more tolerable. Because then we could have brought in a QB who hadn't practiced at all this week. Oh wait we still might do that. But then we could have bitched about Taysom getting hurt so early in the game.
