Watching Deep Blue on BYUtv last week and hearing Riley Nelson talking about being on the special teams units while he was a backup, it's hard for me to believe that a person having the size and athleticism of Munns, being a 4-star recruit, and being a RM red-shirt sophmore, not at least winning a spot on any of the special teams. Something is amiss and that's an awful expensive 3 years we've paid for no return.

After the Heaps disaster, I will wait to see if Hill can perform in a real game situation before I anoint him as even a possible successor.



For some reason I got sick on the kool-aid that Bronco and company were selling before the season started, and my system still hasn't completely recovered.

Riley playing special teams is a nice story, but just because every other QB buried on the depth chart isn't doing the same shouldn't be an indictment on their character or abilities. Sometimes it's okay for a QB to just be a QB.

Come on - he's the fourth string QB. Every team has one. Almost NONE of them do anything but...be the 4th string QB. They are there as an insurance policy just in case 2003 happens all over again and we end up playing the scout team QB.

He's a 4-star QUARTERBACK. A quarterback who's upside was that he had a strong arm and could stand in the pocket and take a few hits. Not the sort of QB like Riley or Steve Young where fans argued about whether they should convert to safety or RB.



His byucougars.com page says that he did, in fact, play QB for the scout team last year.

Backup Kicker. I don't think he can "out kick" Sorenson, but I saw him play in ISU's Holt Arena as a senior. He played QB, DB, and kickoffs. His kickoff's went into the end zone. I don't recall any going out of the end zone, but they at least made it into the end zone. During warmup prior to the game, he was kicking field goals from the 40-45 yard line. No defensive rush, of course, but not too bad for a QB....

I agree. Lark makes more sense if Nelson goes down, but it would be good to get Munns playing time in preparation for 2013.

It has to be tough seeing the success that the clown next to you in this picture has had while you sit around being irrelevant. Apparently the only sighting we have had of Munns is hawkwing seeing him in some practice situations. To quote the great AI "Practice!?!? Practice?!?! Na na not a game, Practice?!?!?" Would be nice to see him in a game. Brady, Schaub, Cassell, etc didn't exactly tear it up in practices.

Do ya suppose that might kinda sorta slightly, in some minor insignificant way, qualify as almost making some very small unnoticable contribution? ;)

Munns will be the second casualty in the death of the drop-back quarterback saga during BD's reign. Not that I'm complaining. BUt THill with one-year as redshirt and running the scout team next year will be fully prepped and ready and MOBILE.

Excuse me, not "the death" but the "suspension", the "not-an-ideal-fit" during BD's reign.

On a positive note, i did see an interview of Tanner Mangum by KSL's Zippy (his actual name escapes me this morning). Mangum is "definitely" going to sign at BYU in Feb. The whole Jake Heaps thing has not dissuaded him at all. WHich is great. He called the Elite 11 and other things all HYPE anyway. If i was smart enough I could find and attached the clip.

If Munns doesn't succeed at BYU he has no one to blame but himself.

It needs to be said - Brandon Doman's last three games HAVE been drop-back QB games. Heaps against ID and NMSU was, by default, a drop back passing game. Nelson's mobility against Hawaii appeared to be limited, and he used it mostly for being elusive in the pocket.



Munns may be a immobile dude, but he's a big dude, which means he should be able to develop his own methods of dealing with pocket pressure, extending plays, etc. And if you're still not sold on Brandon Doman's playcalling abilities for a traditional QB, keep in mind he'll be in his third season by then.
