Most Fun You've Ever Had At An FBall Game

What is the most fun you've ever had at an FBall game?



This is NOT what is the most exciting game you've ever attended, or the biggest BYU win, or whatever. Simple question: Out of ALL the fball games you have ever attended, at what game did you have the most fun, and why?



For me, I have a tie for first: 1990 Miami, and 2008 UCLA



1990 Miami: Exciting game, going toe to toe with the mighty "U", up and down roller coaster of a game, exciting plays at the end to win. Detmer was amazing in that game. Plus, that is the only time I've ever stormed the field after a fball game. Oh, and I was 12 years old, which might have been part of the magic.



2008 UCLA: There was just something about curbstomping the Pac wannabes and Norm Chow. Every bounce of the ball went our way as the wheels came off the Bruins (kind of like what happened to us against the :utard: ). Every second of that game was a blast. It didn't feel real. I mean, we'd just lost to UCLA the year before, and then BARELY escaped in the Vegas bowl. And then 59-0? Are you kidding me? I have never felt higher about BYU than I did after that game. I really thought we had a legit chance to play for the MNC (and then red flags started cropping up against USU and UNM, and the dream ended against TCU).



So what's your answer? What is the most fun you've ever had at an FBall game, and why?

I assume we're talking games we've phyically atteneded...



My top 3 have to be:

1-2000 game in Charlottesville, VA vs Virginia where we came back from something like 35-0 halftime deficit to win the game in OT 38-35. That 2nd half was a blast.



2-2008 UCLA game. That was the ball bouncing right 200% of the time. It was incredible as we were clicking on every cylinder and then some. I called my son at halftime or thereabout. He was taping the game because he worked and couldn't be there. I didn't want to spoil it for him, but it was too much to not tell him that we were up 40-something to zero. Incredible.



3-2002 USU game at Logan where we were down something like 21-0 or thereabout at halftime and came back to win the game 35-34. That was fun. Curtis Brown ran wild.

Hard to pick one. I'll go in chronological order:



2000 Utah: I got my ticket from my friend, who was a Ute fan at that time. (Note the past tense... :D) I sat with Ute fans. And they were everything Max Hall said they were. With 4th and forever inside our own 20, I stood silently watching as the 4 drunks in front of me yelled about all the things they were going to f---, and I had a distinct feeling that we were going to win the game. And I just smiled as those 4 disappointed drunks filed out of the stadium past me that night.



2001 Tulane: My first game as a BYU student. 2000 was kind of lackluster, we had a new coach, so nobody was expecting us to drop 70 on Tulane. Even had an accidental onsides kick, if I recall. Walking home that night was just kind of surreal - the Victory Bell was going nuts, and we all just kind of floated slowly home, thinking, "Did that just happen? 70 points? Wow!"



2001 Utah: I've never been to a game this packed, or seen the atmosphere as crazy as it was at the end when Luke took that last pitch or when Gilford picked off that last pass. It was also the first time I stormed the field at LES. Good times.



2004 Notre Dame: 2nd row, 40 yard line = pure awesome. Our defense was just awesome, never really letting them cross that same 40 yard line except for one flukey dump off that went for 6. And Matt Payne's punting was even better. Got to see Collie haul in his first TD.



2006 Tulsa: The weather and the lightning delay made things awesome. It was a party in the stands for the diehards, and once the game started back up it was actually louder. First game I was able to bring my youngest brother to. It was awesome.



2006 Las Vegas Bowl: Got to go to this game for free with one of my brother's jobs. Had an all access pass to the whole stadium. Oh, and we dumptrucked the Ducks with their new ugly helmets, Crowton's offense, and Belloti's false sense of superiority. It made it worth actually having to be in Las Vegas, and the complete tire blowout I had on the way there.



2007 Utah: The group of people I was with were really down in the dumps - kinda like this board has been lately. When we got the ball back for the last drive, I told them, "You just need a little bit of faith." They got even worse when it was 4th down. I reiterated the call for faith - after all, it's what my dad did when he was with doubting fans at a certain bowl game in 1980. Sure enough, Collie 4:18 happened, and my section turned into a mosh pit of high fives. Once Utah's final prayer went unanswered, we all rushed the field. Somehow, I lost my camera during the melee, and even more amazingly (since I had moved out of state before the season) I got it back through the BYU lost and found.

I have two:



1-1990 Miami. I was 12 years old as well and this was the first football game I had ever attended. I watched the games religiously on TV (KSL back then) but my family got basketball tickets for us kids to take turns going to with my Dad. My Dad got extra tickets from my Uncle so he and I were able to go see Ty in person and it was magical.



2-call me crazy, but 2011 Texas. I've never been able to go to any game anywhere outside of LES, but the stars aligned for me to attend this game. Even though the second half was pretty unbearable, the atmosphere (100,000+ in attendance), the city, and the company (I got to be with my bro-in-laws) were superb.

2001 vs Utah at LES.. sat in front of THE most obnoxious ute fan. In the 4th quarter when BYU looked doomed, he called (on his giant cell phone) a buddy and bet a "steak" that BYU would loose.. Then he blabbed in a very confrontational way for 20 minutes about what dumb bleeps BYU fans are, etc. at which point Doman and Staley led a roaring comeback to win the game. He sheepishly walked out and everyone wished him a happy steak dinner. I've never wanted to trip someone down the stairs at LES so badly.

Glad to see UCLA 2008 getting so much love. Before that game, BYU football was just something going on in the background for me. I went to games because my friends were there. That game made me the BYU fan I am today.



I still get sad sometimes to think I was at Notre Dame 2004 as a freshman and, instead of focusing on what Collie was doing, I was too busy focusing my efforts on a girl who was dating an RM about two weeks later.

Notre Dame 2004. It was my first game ever at Lavell Edwards Stadium. I was with my best friend who was a die hard Irish fan. It was great when we we went for it on fourth down late in the game to seal the victory. Everyone was so high after the game, too bad the rest of the season did not go as well.



UCLA 2008 was my next favorite. It was my first game after my mission and my first one as a BYU student. It was just perfect in every possible way!!!!

The first game I ever attended: Miami 1990.

2008 UCLA - I was dating the girl who would eventually become my wife. She didn't go to BYU so this was her first BYU football game. I was a little worried going in. UCLA was ranked after beating a highly ranked Tennessee (though both teams, it turns out, sucked that year). I remember seeing that look of amazement on her face walking through our portal and seeing the field and the packed stadium. She went to USU so you can understand she'd never experienced anything like LES on gameday. We all know how that game went, and the rest, as they say, is history :D



2009 OK - I didn't go to it, but we had a rockin' party going on, plus the big upset, and driving afterwards everyone was honking and partying in the streets. It was awesome.



After both those games, I thought that year was our year to be the BCS buster...

2010 @Colorado State. My daughter lives in Ft Collins ( we have the same birthday) and this was her present to me. My 2 year-old grandson was amazed being in the stadium.



It was 35 to 0 by halftime. I looked around and the only CSU fans were the band members.



2009 against :utard: Watched with amazement as George caught the game winner. My middle son was with me at the game.

I have had some great ones - gotta go with Miami and yes I was there and yes I stormed the field with my sons. My oldest son fell asleep at the wheel and ran the MBZ convertible off the road through the sage brush at 80 mph on the way there and I was fortunate to survive to tell that story, but we limped the ole Benz up to Deseret Towers parking lot with a leaking oil pan - created a huge oil slick - filled her back up with oil after the game and limped her back to So. Cal for repairs.



2nd place - the win over A&M in Provo. Had breakfast with a bunch of their classy but confident fans on South University Avenue - they were shocked after it was over - they had never even considered the possibility that they might lose.



But then a recent ESPN article told about Aggie lack of realisti expectations and that their fans would say we would have won but we ran out of time. I digress.



Miami.

That was the first time I've rushed the field. Just another in a string of amazing endings in the BYU-Utah game. Glad I was there to to see Hall, Pitta, George and others their last time at LES

And to think, I really didn't even know you then, I just thought it would be a cool thing to get pictures of.

#1 - 1973 New Mexico at BYU. It was cold and the attendance was dismal. I got to sit in the Card Stunt section, so in addition to having fun with the cards, I was sitting on the 50 yard line.



Gary Sheide and Jay Miller set the NCAA record for single game receptions by a receiver. It was amazing. The small crowd was going crazy, and the Cougars went on to a big win. BYU was only 5-6 that year, but you could see they were preparing for something great to come.



#2 - 2006 @TCU. I drove down for the game and went with friends who live in the Dallas area. TCU was ranked #15, and had the nation's longest winning streak. The crowd was enthusiastic, but by the second half, the BYU section was louder than the rest of the crowd. More fun than a barrel of monkeys!

1984- Utah @ BYU. A BYU win locks up an undefeated season. I sat in the north end zone on about row 8. Loved it.

2000- BYU @ Utah--LaVell's last game. Doman leads a huge comeback, complete with 4th and long conversions and a last second win. Started a trend.

2001- Utah @ BYU--Staley streaking down the sideline was AWESOME!

2007- Utah @ BYU. Magic happens baby.

2009 Utah @ BYU--George running down the middle was AWESOME!



Many other, but those are some favs for sure.

Couldn't put any Utah game on there, because I'm way too tense and nervous during those games for one of them to be the "most fun I've ever had at an fball game". Now, if we were talking most EXCITING, then the 2001 and 2009 games would have made my list.

Miami 1990 - I was a Freshman at BYU and it was the first game I ever attended live after a lifetime (to that point) of watching on the satellite at the Church in my Indiana town. I rushed the field. I still think Ty won the Heisman that night.



OU 2009 - When Chambers fumbled in the Blue Zone, the Sooner behind me slapped me on the head and yelled, "Take that Bee-otch!" The rest of the exchange went like this:

Me: (standing and turning around, extending my hand to shake): Hi, My name is HoosierCougar.

Him: (standing, shaking my hand, I now realize he's about 5' even and I'm looking down on him despite the fact that he's a row behind me): Hey! I'm Roddy!

Me: Hi Roddy. Don't hit me.

Him: What?

Me: You just hit me in the head and said "Take that bee-otch!" Don't. Hit. Me.

Him: Oh, man! I'm sorry. I've been swimming with the Captain all day!

Me: Yeah, I can smell. Anyway, I don't want either of you to hit me again. Ever.

Him: Yeah, I love BYU, I've been a fan since the great days of Quarterback U (then he lists Feterik, Walsh, Sarkisian, etc. so I knew he was a legit fan from the great QB days :roll: )



He was our chum the rest of the game, but after the final FG, I turned around to wish him well and he was already headed for the exits.



That was fun!

My favorite is not a BYU game since the only one I can remember is the debacle against Utah this year. When I was at Bingham High School and we beat our rival(Alta) at home and outplayed them the whole game and then were able to properly field an onside kick to win the game. Then we all rushed the field. It was amazing. It was the start of our back to back State championships. My second favorite was when we beat them in the playoffs by 2 touchdowns that year and our whole sideline was chanting "this is our year!" Then we won state the next week. It was pretty sweet. I had a sore throat after both of those games until the next friday.

'92 Penn State game. I was just a 9 year old kid, but Penn State was a big name. I remember right before half, Ryan Hancock aired out a ball to Tyler Anderson on a post route, he caught it and went 80 yards for a TD. I remember that game because it was fairly cold and there was good wind blowing from North to South and Hancock threw that ball about 60 yards into the wind.



Even games that weren't wins over big names teams I loved, if they come down to dramatic fashion. I'd have to say I think it was '89 we were playing UTEP or New Mexico and we left the game early because we thought we were going to lose, ( I was 6), so we're walking out on the street headed toward Smith Field House Parking lot and the crowd goes nuts and the guy next to us was wearing a set a radio head phones, and starts yelling "I knew we should have stayed!" I believe it was Shad Hansen that blocked the game winning field goal attempt.



'96 A&M game- Sweet!

'99 Washington Game- Feterik to Hale bomb, good game.

'96 WAC Championship game, I watched some big Poly knock this drunk Wyoming fan completely out. This guy kept running back and forth with a Wyoming flag and was taunting BYU fans and he said something to this Poly and dude blasted him the face and he was out before he hit the ground. We played like garbage and still won that game.

'89 Utah game. After the butt kicking the year before we came out and destroyed the :utard: Detmer looked awesome that game!
