Looking over the prep for Saturday, everyone is talking about the stakes in the CFP race, but I keep pulling up the tape on how Utah aligns their front seven. They love to show odd-front looks and drop that boundary safety late to muddy the RPO reads for Bear Bachmeier. We saw ASU try some similar simulated pressures a couple weeks ago, though Bear handled the blitz checks well enough to get us out of Tempe with a win. Against a front as disciplined as Utah, Aaron Roderick has to use Walker Lyons as an inline blocker early to establish the B gap before we try to bounce LJ Martin outside on the boundary zone scheme. If we can neutralize their linebackers in the box and force their safeties to play honest run fits, the deep thirds will open up for Tei Nacua and Tiger downfield.
