Big 12 offer in hand and/or Big 12 ADs stating such

I realize this topic is wearing on people...but this is probably the biggest decision point in BYU athletics history. That is my justification for riding the rumor mill.

I think BYU does have an offer in hand. I think BYU is hoping for either 1) the offer to be football only or 2) waiting for the Big12 to show stability by adding other teams so as to avoid the departure of teams.

Could Christmas come early???

Offer is not football only, nor will it ever be. Might be for 2012 only, then all else in 2013. As to stability, if all schools sign the pact, the league has 6 years of stability. That is enough for me. Big XII is best football league this year by a good distance so far.

Sounds like both sides (BYU & Big 12) are being cautious. I really think we will join the BIG 12, but there is no need to rush until all the details are worked out.



We got burned with the TV deal by that fly-by-night outfit in that other conference when we thought we had certain agreements (verbal vs written agreements).

As far as I know, the Big-12 agreed in principle to hand over tier 1 and 2 TV rights which, if done correctly would be the shackles needed to keep the league together. has that deal actually been signed?



perhaps it's nothing, but BYU has been seriously burned by verbal agreements with Comcast, MWC, Utah, nevada, Fresno St. to name a few. The waiting period could simply be to actually get the final document signed so we don't get burned again and to make sure we're secure this time. At least, we can hope.

Wow, after reading two blogs today that seemed to have a lot of facts, I'm finding it, for the first time, a little difficult to not get excited about this prospect.

Maybe, there is some room to at least be CAUTIOUSLY optimistic, but not by much.

Many of you, with very few exceptions, claiming to know this or that without at least saying "according to my sources"--which dont include friends, COugarboard, etc, etc,) and which is only slightly better than pure speculation, ought not to act like you are in the know.

I see your point and it's well-taken, but I don't think that's what's happening in this particular thread. This is a link to a somewhat-reputable blog, and most of the alleged facts discussed here are either mentioned in the corresponding article or Harmon's article from yesterday.



If most of what we know is based on conjecture and dubious sources, then both optimism and pessimism are speculative positions. I'll take the one that makes me happier. ;)

Wouldn't it be nice to have this all tied up by Friday. Then right after the opening prayer before the game, Tom Holmoe walks out on the field with a microphone and says that there is a special guest that would like to say something. He would then introduce the interim commissioner of the Big 12 who would then ceremoniously (because it would already be signed) invite BYU to join the coherence, and Holmoe and Samuelson would accept.



Too bad BYU isn't that media or fan savvy.

The website is blocked at my work. What have the AD's of the B12 so clearly spoken about BYU?

The ADs met today (not the decision makers). Talked about offers to BYU for 2012 and Louisville and plans for other Big East schools to go to 14 teams. Decision to be made within a week.

Just to clarify in case you were wondering, I don't know anything nor will I ever know anything until after it has happened, and I don't have and never will have access to any sources, reliable or not.

we might also require all Big 12 schools to vote for Mitt Romney. Jon Huntsman was the front-runner until it was discovered he's gone completely inactive.
