Cougarblue Is Dead to me

I will occassionally post there now and then from now on... but I think I am close to being through with it.



The trolls grow more and more each day.



This week, buckingbronco literally made a post admitting that he starts threads with the direct intent of stirring up arguments and annoying members. He BLATANTLY ADMITTED it. I reported it, and absolutely NOTHING was done about it.



Or no... I lied. Something WAS done about it.... they edited my post because I called him a "jackass."

So the post where he admits to wanting to stir up contention... nothing.

My post calling him a jackass... censored.

Does anyone else see the problem here?



Then I get a PM from one of the "mods," tannerc, saying "haha it's funny because steed reports several of you as being trolls." Or in other words - he's saying "well how do we know who the real trolls are?" What an ass.



And then some new steed/wolfie/clownfish account pops up, called llama something... posting more anti-mwc crap.

I call him an "idiot" for thinking we don't know it's him... and of course, the mods edit it, changing "idiot" to "genius."

So again... anti-BYU thread = nothing done.

Me using word "idiot" = changed to "genius."



I'm not being sarcastic to any degree whenever I say I am beginning to really think that the moderator positions have been hijacked by anti-BYU people who enjoy watching the trolls post and now in fact seem to be encouraging it.

We really need to get the word out to fans to come here... it's getting ridiculous.

I don't know if I would go that far. But your info, Italics, helps substantiate a rapidly growing trend on Cougarblue. Of course, our goal here is not to bash Cougarblue. It's just to purify the conversation. As the hymn states, "thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine."

Well, with this post you will probably be banned from CB permanently anyways. Tannerc admitted to me that my account with CB has now been placed on a permanent ban. Why was my account put on permanent ban? NOT because of anything I did on their site...but because of this thread:

That is right. I am banned for comments made on a completely different forum. When I confronted Tannerc about it he said the post I linked shows I don't want to be at CB so why should it matter if I am banned or not anyways. I asked him, "...if a similar post was made on myspace or Facebook would that person be banned from CB as well?" His response, "If I see it that person will be banned too." :shock:



So like I say, If you don't care that you will shortly be banned from CB, then let this thread stand because that is what I did. He had to go out of his way and seek me out on this forum, a completely different website, to decide to ban me!?! :shock: I don't know why but it seems to me that he has an issue with me personally to go through the trouble of seeking me out here to ban me over there.



That goes for anyone else who posted in that thread. I am really surprised that those who posted in the "Why little faith in moderation" thread are not permanently banned...because that is the same thing I did but that took place on THEIR website. (I am not throwing you under the bus their, Brad). I am just further proving my point that I have been singled out among posters from CB to be treated as such.

Right, because censoring the word "idiot" will save Cblue....

Those trolls, though... eeehh they don't do any harm...

Cougarblue is more undead than dead. It has been infected by trolls and self-righteous goons and now lurches around absorbing any intelligent thoughts that are invested in it.



It's unfortunate because there are still a lot of posters there that I like, but I've got a sour taste in my mouth the more I read into any thread these days.

I'm starting to migrate over here as well. I'm sick and tired of seeing the senseless retarded diatribe of people like steed, buckingbronco, clownfish, airwolf etc... etc....



It has destroyed what has otherwise been a nice place to come and discuss BYU sports. It hasn't helped that the moderation and administration of the board has been pathetic at best. It's extremely irritating to see posts from longtime users edited or deleted because they call out a troll, while the troll's comment is left be. It's a testament to me of moderators who can't make sense of a head or a rear end.

I've been a lurker on CougarBlue since the beginning of this season, but I don't imagine I'll keep reading. I'm from Boise and spent the better part of this decade a BSU fan, so I've seen trolls on boards before, but generally it consisted of criticism that was at least tangible and understandable (weak schedule, overconfidence, etc.) Maybe something happened in the past that I don't know about, but the trolls on CB just confuse me. It's like Coach Mendenhall ran over their dog or something.



Anyways, I hope this board attracts some of the better regulars from over there, because a lot of them provided a lot of good insight into the team, and offered interesting commentary on the season's progress (the good and the bad).

I have been on cougarblue since I was a student at BYU during the 2001 season. I remember slowly watching the page load up due to a slow dial-up connection. I have always tried to post when I could and really enjoyed the insights from others. However, over the past year or two, it has really gone down hill and been overwhelmed by trolls and those who think they are funnier than they really are. I appreciate a newer forum and hope that we can keep it as informative and fun as the previous cougarblue once was.

Off topic, but why are the unread posts on this forum colored red? Aren't we trying to shun that color? Is it a penalty for those of us who aren't reading every thread to have that offending color burn our eyes? Inquiring minds want to know!

Good point, there is far too much red in this color scheme, if we had some good graphic designers here we could replace some of it with bluer alternatives!

I'm not a graphic designer, but if you want everything to fall in the blue range your only options are saturation and slight hue changes. So keeping everything in the muted ranges of blue will allow you to use a bright blue to highlight. Value is hard to use unless you're changing the background color as well to set the text off.

As for Cougarblue being dead, there are still good posts there but I'd rather invest time in the new board rather than comment on their threads. Is it fair game to bring up things they're talking about there for discussion here? I'm sure nobody wants this to become the "discuss cougarblue" board, but I also think it could help liven things up around here at least while we're trying to attract more users.

I doubt the borrowing of information would bother anyone as long as credit is given to the original author. I often times have borrowed from both cougarblue and cougarboard, but always made sure I gave credit to whomever wrote the post and where it came from. But, I would like to see more traffic on this board, and have seen posts on other boards that would generate some good discussion here. Perhaps others do not feel the same as I do, that perhaps we should be clever enough to derive our own ideas, but, I am too busy at work and only glance from time to time.

In that case I want to answer a steed post here (because you know it wouldn't do any good to respond to anything he says): In the thread where Mars complained about users like steed, the latter responded with the old "opposing opinions" argument and others were actually supporting the viewpoint that users like that merely provide an alternate and interesting view to BYU sports.



My response for the sake of moderation on this board is: arguing about different viewpoints is great. If someone wants to come here and point out what BYU is bad at, or say why their favorite team is better, that's great and makes for interesting discussion.



Here's how I'd suggest moderators here decide who stays and goes:

Respectful fans of other teams-Welcome

Fans who are critical of the way BYU does specific things-Welcome

People who aren't fans of anyone, just BYU haters-Not welcome

People driven by vendettas against coaches or players-Not welcome

I think that is pretty much how everyone sees it.

The classic example of the fans of other teams who are welcome is TexasTim--engages in debate, but laughs at himself and acknowledges when he has lost the debate. I welcome those guys, but the angst-mongerers can keep their Daily Herald subscriptions.

There may come a day when "Cougarblue" is gone from my "favorites" list, and it will be a sad day when that happens. I've been on Cougarblue and its many iterations since about 2000 or so, it's been so long I cannot remember. Today I posted over there that from now on I am boycotting that board for a week whenever I log on and the name Manti is in the "hot topics" column. Shortly after I posted in that thread it was taken down.



It's too bad that I’m so upset over this because Steed has in the past previously posted things that I liked (even if I didn’t agree with him) and I've often found myself thinking that he'd actually be a fun guy to watch a game with - when he isn't in his “Bronco cannot do ANYTHING right” frame of mind.



So….Thanks guys for giving me this pleasant alternative so I can make the switch if needs be!

I don't think everything necessarily needs to be shades of blue, there is room for other colors, though it would be nice to have less red!

I, too, am tiring of the blah blah blah and trolling on CB, and look forward to real football discussion here. I'm always on the lookout for football education (never played), and plan to check out Cougar Corner more often. I love to read opposing points of view that are fact/stat based, but CB has gone beyond that this season.



CB is the only board I've encountered that had such weak-kneed moderation. Some of the military pilot forums I frequent would eat the CB trolls alive.



I hope I don't get banned there. :)
