2012 game against Washington St?

I can't imagine BYU is going to sign any more contracts until we know if we are going to be playing in the Big 12 next year.

What happens to that game?

Well, oregon state was the first game at one point. Now it may not even matter.

If a miracle happens and BYU gets into the Big XII - and then plays a non-conf schedule of teams like Georgia Tech, Utah, Boise State, Notre Dame, etc. - including 2 fers - yikes - hello losing season.



We go Big we better Jettison that stuff - except Utes and get some cupcakes early every year. And sorry, as Ole Miss nearly proved this year, even Washington State or Oregon State might have too much cake in the cup.



We stay Indy - then schedule Vandy, OSU, WSU, Northwestern, Duke, Baylor, Iowa State, BC, Syracuse, Kansas, Kentucky, Hawaii, and Utah all home and away and hope for the best. Throw in Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana, Wake Forest, UConn, once in a while if you are feeling bold and brave.



Then plan on a really nice BCS Bowl if we ever manage to run that table. If we can't run that table, mix in USU, Weber State, and So. Utah to start every season - just like we better do if we go BIG.

Well - GA Tech may be scrambling to find a date to play the ACC additions if the Big East chooses to let them go early as has been most recently rumored after initially saying they would make them honor the 27 months in Big East policy. Big East will do that if it helps them land replacement teams like Navy and AFA sooner. Army never gets mentioned, but Big Easy ought to go for the Trifecta on the military or at least Army and Navy who are in the same time zones.



Football is a regional sport and time zones will always make it challenging for fans of a team when conference boundaries start crossing more than one of them. Army, Navy, and Air Force have national and international fan bases, so they might work out better than Texas to PAC would have worked.

I just don't want ANY PUKE12 team where they have their refs for any game we play at their place and when they play at ours. I watched back-to-back Big Ten vs. Puke 12 games with the game at the Big Ten stadium and each time the refs were Big Ten. We don't get like consideration, than I don't want to play them. Simple as that.

Well if we go BIG we can dictate who we play OOC. I suggest we make USU, WSU, and maybe Idaho or NM State give us 1 and dones or 2fers and play it like the big boys play it - especially until we see how those 9 Big 12 games go for a while. We need to schedule in a way to ensure Bowl Eligibility every year.

Here's a little more info from a Q&A with the WSU AD:



"Q. Next year’s nonconference football schedule includes a game with Eastern Washington in Pullman and a trip to UNLV. I’ve heard there is a chance you will be opening at BYU. Any truth to that?



"A. We haven’t signed the contract but we were set to play BYU later, I think in 2015, ’16, ’17, somewhere in there. My contacts with ESPN inquired about us moving that series up. There were a lot of things that had to take place, which the people at ESPN managed for us, so it looks like there’s a good possibility that we could open up at BYU for the 2012 season and have them return in 2013."

If we do in fact stay Indy in 2012, and this WSU series works out, our schedules the next 2 years are actually shaping up pretty nicely.



In 2012, games against 4 middle/upper tier BCS-level teams (GT, :utard: , BSU, ND), two middle/lower tier BCS teams (OSU, WSU), and then 6 middle/lower tier non-AQ/d-1AA teams (Weber, USU, NMSU, SJSU, Idaho, Hawaii). This is pretty close to what Holmoe said the goal was as far as opponent mix goes each year. Unfortunately, our 4 toughest games in 2012 are all on the road (at least, what you would THINK would be the 4 toughest games).



In 2013, 5 games against middle/upper tier BCS-level programs (GT, UT, :utard: , BSU, ND), 2 quality non-AQ teams (Houston, Hawaii), and then USU, with 4 or 5 games left to schedule.



All in all, not bad schedules for the 2nd and 3rd year of Indy. now, if they can just schedule some more decent home/home series...



That said...I'd rather have a Big 12 schedule.
