Things to work on this week:

Corby Eason. Dude needs work.



team tackling. How many times did we get a man on UCF in the back field only to have them go 10 yards after contact?



McKay's routes. I don't know if it's Heaps or McKay but they were missing each other ALL GAME LONG. I counted 2 missed TD passes, and plenty of other long yardage plays that were just off. I really feel it was the timing of these two that made Doman take the ball out of Heaps hands and call runs on what seemed like 10 straight plays in the 4th quarter.

DB's need position mastery reenforced. They keep trying to "help" others with their assignments and thus the many "big" plays over the top. It cost us against Utah and Tx and needs to be corrected.



More team discipline (can't believe I have to write that). The 15 yarder on the muff, jumping around at the end when the other team was already lined up fighting the clock, the flexing after the sack (I was waiting for the flag to come out on that one), to name the ones that come to mind right now.



And a lot more of Heaps and Jacobson working their timing and reads. It does look like Heaps and JJ are on the same page. I'm not sure what the Jacobson problem is though. Since when do you do a stop route a yard short of the first down on third down? He should have gone past the marker and come back to just beyond the marker.



And enough of the throws right at the sideline, how about the throw being a foot in bounds so the WR has a better chance at making the reception.

Safeties and DBs are prone to get sucked in on zone reads and play action passes. Guyton burned us for some long gainers that could have been touchdowns had the ball not been underthrown.



Heaps still rushes his passes when under pressure - I am worried about how he will do against TCU as they can bring the heat.



We need Pendleton back in the middle as we had trouble containing Godfrey who was excellent on the option read and pass. They marched the ball downfield all day on us and were only stopped by turnovers (fumbles and interceptions).



We also need to solidify left guard - Houston Reynolds (out with injury) and Thorson still allowed some penetration in the middle and with blitzes.



Doman making calls in press box showed improvement on the runs (Kariya on his three carries up the middle culminating in his 6 yard TD) and the 16 yard sweep by JJ for 6.



We are making progress but are still far from being a great team. These early, tough games have been very instructional in determining our strengths and weaknesses and where we need improvement. That said, the team never gave up tonight and that is a very good sign after the Utah debacle.
