Yes, but he's still been played in every game, so give him the damn ball if you're gonna have him on the field.

I have been in his corner ever since the Oklahoma game. He is one tough between the tackles runner! Almost always good for 1-3 extra yards.

Totally agreed. Couldn't be more happy to see us handing the ball to Bryan to run straight up the middle.

Kariya was great. And I want to see him carry the ball more. It also opened up JJ's game (who had a decent game as well). All the running backs ran the ball with a sense of determination last night. It was a welcomed sight.

I had completely lost all faith in our RBs until last night. Thank you Kariya for restoring that faith. Cool to see that both of our offensive touchdowns came from our Senior Captain RBs

I love BK. From my high school. Glad he is healthy. HE is still not a feature back. BYU lacks one this year. The 3-headed hydra proves it.

Well, unfortunately, I think it is a coincidence. This game was won by special teams and an opportunistic defense. It was the kick return and the botched punt return that handed this game to us.



Kariya had 14 touches for 53 yards. A good chunk of those came on the 22 yard drive for the touchdown where he rushed four times or so. Outside of that, his production was spotty and paltry.



I like Kariya...don't get me wrong. But we will not win games if we have to rely on him to be a feature back or if we expect him to carry this team to victory. He simply is not good enough...but he is secure with the football and is usually good for 2-3 yards.

Actually just under 4 against one of the top defenses in the country if you do the math. But you are right, he isn't going to bust a 60 yard TD run very often. But then my son had just leaned over to me after the prior Hoffman KO return attempt and complained that we are the only team in the country with a 6ft 4 receiver returning kicks - not a burner - not juking anyone out of their shoes - and on the next kick-off bang.



We do not have an NFL back on the team. Maybe next year. Maybe not. We may sorely miss Kariya next year. We are not RB U and we do not get many of those recruits. Our very best, Staley, Ungainly, Brown - marginal NFL at best and usually we get a marginal NFL FB if anything.

I'd settle for marginal NFL caliber back right now. That would be a big improvement. None of the 3 we have now are even marginal.



Honestly though, we still have Oline issues. Our backs do not look as good because our Line play is worse this year. WE are having MAJOR issues at Left Guard this year. NEither guy has played great at that spot, which is why we can't run often behind our LT and best lineman. We seem to run right more than left, which is telling.

Amen to this...and I feel like this is a contributor to the dramatic underperformance of our running backs, Jake Heaps, and the offense as a whole.



Maybe it is the optimist in me...but I still this thing coming together this year.

Kariya opened up the run game because he can pound it up the middle, which draws linebackers in, opening up both JJ to the outside and the play-action (which was completely under-utilized). I really don't see it as a coincidence that the two games we have used Kariya are the ones where the run game has been decent and we've more easily been able to move the ball. We averaged what? 4.5 a carry last game.
