Despite Heaps, BYU wins (was: Despite win, bench Heaps)

It was the defense and the running game that won. Heaps still doesn't have it yet. Not saying he won't someday, but he is a liability and simply not playing well.

Man he missed some wide open throws. That post the mckay ran on one of the last series was wide open and the ball was 6 feet high and 3 yards behind him. We may have to make a change. 133 passing yards unacceptable.

I'll just say...



Thank you to the defense for being awesome again. Thank you to Doman for getting your butt in the pressbox and realizing that Kariya is the one who can run up the middle, not JJ. Thank special teams for carrying the extra dead weight on offense.



The only bad is that this win probably gives the coaching staff further undue confidence in Heaps...who has yet to win a game for us in his career that any other player on the bench could not have.

Who was our last quarterback who had such talent and such bad head issues? Berry? Engemann?

I agreed with your other points, but I wanted to focus on this. I looked back at all of Heaps starts and I don't know that there is a game that you can say BYU won because of Heaps.



He had a couple efficient games against UNLV (162 PER), CSU (242 per) and UTEP (171) but 162 used to be a season average for a BYU QB. And the CSU game he only had 20 attempts and was helped out by 284 rushing yards. In all the close wins Heaps was bad, including tonight.



I'm not saying they should cut Heaps, just that they started him way too early and even now we might be better off with Lark, but please not Nelson (I liked the 4th down option. Seemed like a play you would call in a video game).

Oh I also wanted to echo Aggie's sentiment. I think Heaps still has potential, but I think it is pretty clear tat he is not ready yet.



Please tell me Quarterback University has a better option at QB. Give Heaps another year or two to develop.

All due respect to you Jonny...I see UT run 3 QB's at us until something worked and now they have things going for them. The 2nd string QB for UCF comes in his first ever game and lights us up, making better throws in 1 drive than Heaps has made this entire season.



Heaps might be great one day, but for the sake of the team's psyche at this point in time he is not above benching, for heaven's sake.

I found it kind of ironic that people were wondering why Heaps put so much air on his deep passes, and then he lasered it to McKay tonight and completely overthrew him. McKay had the guy beat by 5 yards and would have had an easy score if Heaps had put more air on that pass.

I'm pretty disappointed in Jake considering all the hype & especially the pre-season comments this year. The: "we're ready - so ready - we're way ahead of last year ... " So, the reality is, the Coaches grossly over estimated the readiness & effectiveness of our Cougar Offense.

Touches your hands, you better the heck get it, IF IT TOUCHES YOU, IT IS YOUR JOB TO CATCH THAT BALL, OR MAKE SURE NO ONE DOES.

Big time kudos to Bronco for the Defense he has put together. That Linebacker Corps is tremendous! That crew is the backbone, foundation & big time play-makers game after game. Bronco knows Defense - and his Linebacker experience is apparent with who he has recruited & how they perform.

It appears to me jake does a better job when the receiver is going East-West than North-South. Maybe it gives him a better window to throw into.
