From what I have been able to gather from amigos in the AD, the main reason BYU jumped to independence so quickly after the PAC expanded was because many people thought it was the beginning of CFB Armageddon. BYU had been preparing for quite a while to go indie in the case that CFB Armageddon started and BYU didn't have an immediate home in one of the power conferences. Being indie would enable BYU to be very aggressive and flexible in pursuing a better conference while at the same time being an easy snag for a power conference that was looking for additions.



BYU did not make the move just so they could get a short term upgrade later. They went independent with the express intent of getting into a long term power conference. If the Big 12 can't make an extremely persuasive case that it will be one of the power conferences, BYU isn't going to want to jump in, despite the fact that for the immediate future it would be a big step up from the MWC.

Of course OU is going to say that. They can't say they'll be the third because BYU hasn't even been invited.

The problem is that the B12 is the only power conference that we can go to. We either go now or never.

You sure would like that wouldn't you.



I do think people are ahead of themselves thinking byu is a lock. they are not a lock until there is an official invite. with the big east having basically collapsed the big 12's ability to get other schools just go easier. byu however still seems like the most logical choice though given it is in a new market with a decent following and more importantly they can be a part of the big12 starting next season which most teams probably cannot.

Actually, I think BYU also fits rather well geographically as well. They would provide a new market without expanding all the way to either coast.



I would love to see BYU come to Iowa State to play! Only an hour away! By the way, Iowa State isn't the pushover many believe. They're 3 - 0 this year, including a triple-overtime win over Iowa.

Trust you enjoyed the game bib2.

I have learned to never give up on BYU. The passing game is not working consistently, but there were many electrifying moments and turns in this game. The Kickoff return by Hoffman was worth the trip. Defensive stands. Punts. Kickoffs. Sweet!
