It is very public now as Texas AD has commented on BYU being team 10 today. Also, sounds as if Tier 1 and 2 TV rights to be an equal split, and the Big XII is to replace Beebe on an interim basis with former Big 8 Commish.

Very interesting to have the Texas President come right out and drop BYU's name. If things stabilize the way they are, I really think for the first time that the invite might actually be coming for BYU.

If SMOKE refers to smoke and mirrors, then you are right. I will believe it when I see it.

The only quiet ones are BYU. TX, OU, OSU, et.al., have been deceptive and gamey.

Who knows but that he's dropping BYU's name out there to heighten the byu fanbase bc there is a negotiating point that they are trying to pressure byu to give up. Or just plain smoke and mirrors for some other program that is quietly negotiating.

I don't mean to pick on you lawboy (yes I do), but how many time have we heard this out of you?

Since Texas talks about us then that means we have already agreed in principle to join the league.

I don't blame our boy for not anticipating the Oklahoma hissy fit that almost blew up college football as we know it today. Everyone likes to bag on Texas for being selfish even though we bagged on the MWC for years for not giving us the larger share we thought we deserved and lately have insisted that we keep our Mormonhorn network and ESPN deal.



But it was actually the selfish clinging onto it's Longhorn network that has twice resulted in the PAC not adding Texas, Okie, and friends and blowing up college football.



The selfish horns just saved The Big 12, well how many chickens shall we count before they hatch - make that seem to have saved college football as a direct result of clinging to The LHN.



If this all goes down - the ESPN deal as we currently know it makes no sense and would probably evaporate into some renegotiation of the Big 12 Contract. The Fox deal might get tweaked as well. Most likely Big 12 Tier 1 would get any BYU games it wants within the terms of it's agreement, Tier 2 would have it's pick of the leftovers, and Tier 3 BYU could do what it wants with those home games or OOC games. Something like that. Fan access would not suffer due to BYU TV, but exposure would have pluses and minuses due to more interesting games people other than BYU fans would want to watch - but for the ones on BYUcTV no ESPN promotion of the games. And there probably will be more games pushed off to BYU TV.



More pluses than minuses in my book and I, as a fan, care more about access than exposure. As an every member a missionary hat wearing fan, the exposure will be very good.

I trust Lawboy. He probably has the best inside info about this kind of stuff out of all of us here that share inside info. I'm excited to see how this works out. Now I'm just wishing I could have seen that 2013 schedule... oh wait I'll be on my mission anyway! Big XII sounds great to me. How about rubbing that in the :utard: s faces?! Big XII > Pac12 especially now that Oregon lost and Jim Harbaugh is gone. Besides this would get BYU into Texas for recruiting! I'll take Texas over California for recruits any day. Although I would take relaxing in San Diego over burning up in Austin :P

As per Lawboy's credibility, based on multiple other sources, his information has been spot on. If it has proven to be inaccurate, it is because the situation changes so rapidly.

Any inside info on whether we'd be football only or all sports?

Dennis Dodd said Football and waterpolo; but he wasnt sure the other presidents would agree to waterpolo. ;-)

we could rub in how much more money we'll make them they will for at least the next 2-3 years it takes for them to actually become a full member.

It is really looking as though if it doesn't happen it is because we choose not to join. ESPN says

Expansion also will be on the table for the presidents, the source said, with the three likely candidates -- BYU (independent in football/West Coast Conference in other sports) and Big East schools Louisville and West Virginia. Those were three of the five schools that the Big 12 athletic directors were charged to call when Texas A&M announced it was leaving.

Another espn article I read yesterday, but I can no longer find, said that Arkansas was 1st choice, but they said no, BYU was 2nd choice and they said maybe. So it would be down to the terms of the deal.



It may not happen, but it sounds like it is our choice now.



Before A&M left and Syracuse and Pitt joined the ACC, I would have said no. Now, after the Super Conference scare, I would say yes.

One more thought.



I can't help but wonder if our showing against Oklahoma in Dallas and against Texas in Austin haven't helped our cause. We showed we can compete on the field, that we will sell tickets, and draw TV ratings.



That couldn't hurt our resume for the Big 12.

I don't think we want to rely on recent performances to justify Big 12 inclusion...

I may be in the minority here, but I don't think that BYU to the Big 12 is a "done deal", or even close. In fact, they may not be the top candidate. I'm very worried about the sudden availability of Big East teams.



The Big 12 can expand East, or West (unlike the PAC, that could only really expand one direction). Is the Big 12 likely to expand BOTH East and West if they want to get to 12 members? Maybe...but it doesn't seem that logical to have a bunch of teams in the Central time zone, a few in the Eastern...and one in the Mountain.



Logistically, it may make MORE sense to add a Louisville (closer, same time zone(??)) or maybe a Louisville/WVU/Cinn/Rutgers/UCONN combo than throwing BYU into the mix.



I get that BYU is immediately available, but I've come to realize that ANYTHING is negotiable. I think that the Big East schools could negotiate a faster exit that 27 months. And if the ACC poaches 2 more teams, then the Big 12 might just decide to kill the conference, taking 1-3 more Big East teams. And when the conference implodes, there is no more 27-month wait.



While you might argue that the BYU brand is stronger than the Big East candidates, I'd argue that while that may be true, how much stronger is the BYU brand than say a West Virginia? Is it really a big enough difference to make working around BYU's demands worth it? WVU has no problem with Sunday play, and may not require the same assurances that BYU would.



I'm not on the bandwagon that thinks that BYU to the Big 12 is a virtual certainty. Maybe its because I'm used to BYU getting screwed over, but I'm just waiting for the bad news - that either we turned down an invite (which we'd probably never know anyway), or the Big 12 decides to go a different direction.



When its all said and done, OU's wandering eye, right when it appeared that BYU to the BIg 12 was actually going to happen, may have given the deal just enough rope to hang itself.

As to the Big East, they have a 27 month opt out provision, and they will not implode. They have 10 hoops only teams to ensure that fact. So no Big East team could join the Big XII in 2012. Not until 2014, under current bylaws. All indications are that the BE is playing hardball on this--see Syracuse and Pitt issues re:ACC. So not only is BYU the option, they really are only option now, other than ND, Navy and Army--the other indy's. Big XII needs a team for 2012, because A&M met the requirements for exit for 2012.



BIg XII officials are meeting as I type this, and it is expected that they were fire Beebee, put an agreement in place to stick together for at least 5 years, could be as long as 7, with a huge buyout penalty. Issue right now is how serious is Missouri to SEC. I think we learn this today. If they go, Missouri is dumb. They have not won a football conference title since 1960, and the SEC will turn them into Kentucky, Ole Miss or Vandy.



People can question my info, and I am fine with it. This whole situation changes by the day. This was all agreed to weeks ago in principal, before OU decided to make a power play. BYU got assurances it wanted, then it changed on them again.
