PI

I'm not blaming the refs here. The utes just took the cougs to the woodshed, but those 2 PIs on third down really hurt. Especially the first one that was pretty benign if you ask me. The second one, sure Uale made contact but it looked to be pretty close to uncatchable. I suppose it was close enough to warrant the call though. Would have been interesting to see if the ute catches the ball on that one if he didn't get touched. Probably more frustration at that point than anything else. I believe utah scored on both drives.

I've been waiting for a few years now for a PI call on BYU to be waved off for being uncatchable.



It should also be pointed out that the turnovers didn't lose BYU the game. They simply made the game a blowout.

At the same time, without the turnovers, BYU would have scored at least one more touchdown or fieldgoal (The drive where JJ fumbled at the Utah 3 yard line.)

Fair enough. The turnovers in the 2nd half didn't lose BYU the game, the only made it a blowout.

Heaps didn't lose the game. But the bad snap followed by a poor decision (even if he was trying to make a play, it was a poor decision to not just fall on it) set the tone for the rest of the night. Other than that play, Heaps had a pretty good first half. Then when the wheels came off, he wasn't able to lead the offense to overcome any more mistakes.

The first one was iffy, the second one was s stupid play.

I see it this way, seven drives terminated by turnovers. Seems to me that would have an impact on the score. Personally I think the D just gave up. They were exhausted from picking up the pieces so many times that they basically didn't have any fight left in them. I will say Heaps was pretty good in the first half. Over 200 yards at half should have led to a blowout of Utah but again we kept shooting ourselves in the foot.

I think you are right ... Bronco has told us many times how deep this team's talent is. Yet he did not rotate the defensive line during the game (I think he rotated for 3 plays in the first half and then again late in the 3rd quarter). The second team is not supposed to be a step down ... because they weren't used, the first team got exhausted and got ripped for a lot of points. Bronco and Kafusi need to do a better job of keeping fresh legs out there.
