Hayden Weichers - WR/DB - Class of 2013

6-0, 165, Bingham H.S. - speedster and big-play receiver. Coach Cahoon is actively recruiting this kid and he is interested in the Y. Don't know his 40 time but he has great hands.

Made visit to the Y during practice this week - Cahoon wants him as WR and Howell prefers him at DB. Has great footwork and speed.'Was MVP WR in BYU summer camp last year. Selected to play in Elite 33 (Utah) vs WA elite on Dec. 30-31. His father and uncles played for the Y as DBs and safety. Said he is tempted to commit on the spot if offered as his desire has always been to attend BYU - family ties/tradition and because of church standards.

Drew Phillips was playing in the offensive backfield as a RB. Falslev was a walk-on and Jacobson signed in 2006. Like I said, it's been a while since BYU signed a WR that small.

Finished 3rd in last Saturday’s (6/9/12) Receiver Tech 25 Camp developed by Scott Collie.

Apparently the 6-foot, 170-pound WR showed good speed and sure hands during the machine drill (tied with other WR Sawyer Mullane).

Will attend BYU Jr. Camp (6/13/12).

Seeking second available WR scholarship offer in their recruiting class.

Received an offer today along with one from USU. BYU's offer is for him to enroll in Fall 2016 after serving a mission when he graduates from HS.

Interesting offer. I hope by 2015 BYU will be offering and getting commitments from better athletes.

He will leave on a mission and joing Dylan Collie - both are good friends and very competitive. He is a very good athlete - showed very well at Scott Collies's RT25 camp -

Quick and fast (4.5/40 - hand timed), with great hands.

I've decided I'll take sure hands, good routes and mediocre athlete over SUPERB athlete, lazy routes and mediocre hands.

Cahoon is trying to balance the mix of receiver types to take advantage of the skill set they offer. While BYU has been recruiting the big WR lately, given the player he is and the the WR teammates he played with in the 80s, he tends to like the small, precise WR types that caught everything thrown their way. The only component he is now adding is speed and athleticism (two sport athletes). Arslanian, Weitchers, hopefully Davis and Munson, etc. are examples of this.

It appears that Hayden has good hands but is undersized. I think Cahoon can make him effective for us.

Correct. Falslev is also undersized but seems to have done quite well. He is athletic but not as fast as Hayden. However, he has a big heart, courage and his competiveness makes up for his stature. I believe Hayden has these same traits and big play capability with his speed. Perhaps he will be the receiver that M. Jacobsen didn't quite become during his four years at the Y.

Falsalev is also on the field for his stop and go ability. That dude changes direction faster than Obama's political team.

Weichers has recommitted to USU - has to do with timing of scholarship. USU recently offered one immediately. Originally both USU and BYU offered him a spot after a mission. He was a fast and big play WR - may have an opportunity to play immediately with USU as they lost their starting WR to graduation.

This has me a little worried. The fact that a WR would rather go to USU than BYU doesn't sit well with me.
