CougarbibOK - if some of you are gong to keep throwing around the 11 yards or whatever it was - let's at least provide full disclosure and the details.
First - let me get this out of the way. I agree that our running game is a huge disappointment, like it usually is against defenses of this caliber. Even below average for suchj opponents. But it was not 11 yards for the running backs.
I read that the Running Backs had 13 carries - yes 13 - not the 22 number that has been thrown around. That is becasue the 22 number probably counts some QB sacks of the QB that sucks according to some fans. I will just say he is not playing well, is playing scared, is not looking like a playmaker, and is showing poor leadership due to having a very difficult time with personal accountability. I did not say he sucks. But his play is very poor right now as it always has been agasint tough defenses.
Now that we have that out of the way - don't jump to 11/13 equals less than 1 yard for the backs.
I also read tha they had 42 yards for a 3+ yards per carry. Normally 4 would make coaches happy and win games. It is short of what we need.
Now - if we hadn't spotted 5 QB and special teams turnovers to go along with the 2 RB turnovers, we would not have been playing from behind and would not have needed to toally abandon the running game. Heaps would not have had to throw 50 times and perhaps the RBS get another 20 carries and we get a 100 yard performance unless the Utes get tired and we bust a few and do even better.
Anyway - we got net 11 yards or whatever it was - but don't put that all on the running backs - other than their 2 fumble contribution to the 7 turnover total.
Utah's rushing wasn't any better until our defense got worn down. Our offense needds to wear down opponent defenses and give our defense a break and a rest.
Don't take this as The Bibster saying our running game is great. It isn't. But the running backs produced a little over 3 yards per carry - so at least describe it accurately.
