The UCF Game and what we need to do to win

UCF comes into the game at 2-1. They beat Charleston handily, Boston College 30-3 and lost to 3-0 FIU in Miami 17-10. They have an decent running and passing game, and defense has played solidly. What say ye we do against a team that is not UT or Utah but does have speed?

WIll be a tough win. But I didn't expect much against SDSU last year either.



We'll see.

Stating the obvious and sounding like a broken record:



1. No turnovers (interceptions, fumbles).

2. Establish running game

3. Use Hoffman, Apo and TEs coupled with swing passes to JJ and Jacobson.

score more than 1 TD a game?

I think 1 TD a quarter is about where this team should set the bar. Is that too much?

I'd settle for 1 TD a half right now. But yes, 1 TD quarter should be more than manageable for any offense.

I'd just like to see the offense score more td than they give up. Right now they are tied 3-3. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Hmmm....that's asking a lot. You have really high expectations.



1 TD a half is probably high enough. At least that's where I am placing the bar.

BYU offense needs to make UCF defense work and let our defense rest. If so, our front guys won't fatigue and allow the speed guys to get into our backfield running loose as we are clearly outmatched in that situation. If O does this, D will hold UCF to 13.



O cannot kill drives with penalties and turnovers. We are at best going to be mediocre at running the ball unless Jake Heaps or his replacement starts running downfield aggressively without sliding before getting a first down on broken plays or when receivers are covered. QB draw to start the first drive would be killer.



QB needs to be precise with throws to overcome defense focusing on stoping the run. Can't rush throws or telegraph them. QB needs to move out of the pocket more frequently and not always to the right.



Do this and D keeps us in the game so we do not have to abandon the run. Maybe we wear their d down and run effectively in Q4.



Pray that altitude and jet-lag and fan support tilt things enough in our favor to secure the 14-13 victory.

We need to keep the fans in the game for all four quarters. The atmosphere at the start was electric and there was quite the buzz. After a couple of turnovers and scores it literally sucked he life out of the stadium.

I don't think we win this game. It's looking like UCF's defense will probably be the best we play this year and I do not expect our offense to score.



However, we could win the game if the defense plays great and scores, AND if the offense is able to sustain some drives (I don't expect them to be able to score touchdowns, but maybe get in field goal range once or twice. Basically if the offense can keep the time of possession edge in our favor and we get a TD on defense and a fg on offense we could win.

More than scheming, etc.. they need to not feel sorry for themselves. Where their heads are at will dictate this game more than whether Doman is upstairs or not.



Most interesting game of the season so far to me.

No way. UCF does not have the best D. BC sucks on offense, and lost to Duke handily, and Duke is average. UCF has a good D, but Texas, Utah are better. A lot better.
