A Few Thoughts

1. The coaches (Bronco, et al) have lost this team. Can they get them back? Maybe.



2. The offensive scheme has some flaws in design, especially on the play action against an outside blitzer. The back is responsible to carry out a fake and then react back to pick up the block. It showed last night and against Ole Miss a couple times. It also is ineffective if you don't actually hand it off occasionally.



3. The offensive line is awful. Flat out terrible. Again. Reynolds should have left after last year, cause he's being exposed for the fraud that he is right now. The position coach needs to go. Like yesterday.



4. The QB (doesn't deserve to be called by name) is a pansy. THE EXCUSE OF BEING YOUNG IS NO LONGER VALID AFTER PLAYING IN 16 GAMES. You can either play at this level or you can't. The QB can't.



5. The defense isn't deep enough or there is a lack of proper rotation.



6. Bronco and this coaching staff are not good evaluators of talent. We keep hearing about these deep classes that he's brought in. Most have underperformed or are no longer with the team for some reason.

I concur. To wit:



11 yards total rushing in 22 attempts

7 turnovers. All were on offense except the fumble on the kickoff reception.

Scoring (NOT including the kicking game): 3 touchdowns in 3 games



If your rushing game is that bad, you won't be able to pass, as you will have no free receivers.



The only thing that even kept us in the first two games was defense and kicking. The offense hasn't done much of anything to date. When the defense is on the field for an 8 minute drive and then you turn over the ball on the first play, and they are out there for another 8 minute drive, they are going to get tired and make even more mistakes, especially in the secondary. I am amazed that time of possession last night (27:17 vs. 32:43 for Utah) was as close as it was. It seemed like we were three and out every time we got the ball (that is, if we could hold onto it for 3 straight downs).



This team seems completely dysfunctional. No creativity in play calling. A defense that lets teams complete passes, score once they've caught the ball, and let running backs go on 50+ yard runs several times per game. An offense that can't seem to get two first downs in a row. Special teams that can't hang on to the ball and go to exactly the same place every time they return a kickoff. No pride. No accountability. No player leadership. Yada yada yada.



All 6 of your points are right on.

The team quit. That is inexcusable. That was my biggest disappointment. I can handle a game where the wheels fall off, everything goes wrong, the ball never bounces your way. It happens. I can handle a loss. Even a big one. But I cannot tolerate a team rolling over and dying.

Knowing that I'm not going to hear the end of this tomorrow at work (4 cougs and 12 utes in my department), I'm in a cranky mood and am preparing my response:



1) Fire the offense

2) Fire the defense

3) Fire the special teams

4) Fire Cosmo

5) Fire the Cheerleaders

6) Fire the Cougar Marching Band and Cougarettes

7) Fire the ROTC members that fire the cannon and do push ups

8) Fire the trainers

9) Fire the scout team

10) Fire the Athletic Director

11) Fire the AD's staff

12) Fire Greg Wrubell and Marc Lyons

13) Fire President Samuelson (a Ute Booster)

14) Fire the Board of Trustees (Most of them are Ute Grads?)

15) Get rid of athletics. Go the way of Ricks/BYU Idaho. We are there for an education.

The Board of Trustees is now evenly split: 5 BYU grads, 5 Utah grads, 3 USU grads, and 2 who did not attend college in Utah.
