Alright who knows anything about this kid? The fact that he is slotted below Riley has me concerned, but hey UT found their new QB at #3. Yes, I think Heaps is soft and doesn't have killer instinct or the natural ability to make throws, but I heavily blame the pathetic running game for putting too much pressure on him to convert every single 3rd down. Therefore, my thoughts on Lark have less to do with skill set and more to do with the fact that the QB defines the attitude and mojo of an entire team. And it's pretty clear that this team needs a drastic change (and it surely won't happen in the coaching ranks by Friday).

With that being said, what's the scoop on Lark? Can he be our diamond in the rough?

Well, I hear he is no longer nursing, so he has that advantage over Heaps.

I hear he is a "gamer" which apparently means "we instantly start running the ball for more than 50 yards a game against good teams."

He has exactly what we need, I'm sure...

All I've heard is that in Lark was one heckuva High School QB. But, everyone @ this level was a High School all conference everything. Let's have a look @ Lark.

I still have faith in Jake. The turnovers are KILLING us. Some of it is Jake's fault - some isn't.

I'd rather see Nelson in the UCF game than Lark or Heaps.

I don't care who's in the game. Just show me that you care about the team and want to win.

The solution is clearly a 3 QB system. Jake for a series, then Riley, then Lark. It'll keep defenses constantly guessing and off balance. Last year we were going in the right direction with the 2 QB system, we just didn't take it far enough.

Nelson is not the answer! We saw what he could do last year. The offense would be even worse with him in the game.

Why stop there? Give Marcus Matthews, Kuresa, Tollestrup, etc some snaps. Let's find out who will win games.

This is what some of us had to say about Lark the last time we saw him.

Having said that, Nelson definitely looked better in his series than Lark did in his. I was actually pleasantly surprised by Munns. Sure, it was against the 3's and 4's, but better than expected.

Yeah, Lark had a great week of practice and then didn't do much once the teams went "live." Hopefully he'll have another great week of practice and then feel little more comfortable in the next scirmmage He closed the gap between him and Nelson last week and probably could have overtaken him with a better scrimmage showing. Maybe that will come next time.

If Lark really wants to move up the charts he needs some times with the twos to show what he can do. But Nelson is still clearly the #2 guy.

He is the best athlete we have at QB. He sure isn't going to show weakness like Heaps does on the field. He might not be the polished Quarterback Heaps is, but I am confident that he would do no worse. If nothing else I guarantee he would be a better leader. He's had to sit on the bench, he's been on a mission, hes endured life difficulties and still remains true and passionate about BYU Football.

I'm not calling for him to start next game, but I was very disappointed he did not see the field yesterday. It does no good to keep Heaps in there in that trainwreck of a game. I played with Lark in high school and I've seen him make all the throws that Heaps does. In my mind he has every bit the arm. I'd love to see him get a chance if Heaps struggles again next week.

I seem to remember about 11 years ago, we found a QB at 3rd string that ended up winning the next 14 games and was a 5th round draft pick in the NFL draft. Too bad no one knows where he is. Oh, wait...

And I seem to remember, that he had BYU's only Doak Walker Winner as a teammate, and an offense tailored to them by a very good OC. ;)

We have none of those here, currently.

And that guy had heart. Something we are lacking right now too.

People say that Heaps is our best option right now, but ask them how they can be certain that Heaps will perform better in games than Lark will?

It's Heaps job to lose because we can't try everyone in a game, but in my mind his performance warrants giving someone else a look. Especially in games where Heap's one amazing throw is overshadowed by crushing mistakes.

Because Heaps performed better in practices, scrimmages, and everything else better than Lark did.

Is there some magical intangible thing that some people have to not be very average at best in practices and scrimmages, but awesome in games?

Perhaps the same intangible thing that someone can be excellent in practice then poor in games?

I'm going off of the scrimmages more than the practices by the way.

Lark didn't look very good. Munns looked way better than Lark actually. And Nelson was heads and tails above both of them. And Heaps was heads and tails over him.

So that is partly where I am coming from. Practice isn't a good indicator in and of itself because there are so many changing variables depending on who is on the field, and what "game day" scenarios you are attempting.

So you're saying UT needs to bench McCoy Jr. go back to Gabbert because he is the better QB in practices, scrimmages, and everything else?

Why didn't the other QBs excel in games in 2000? They also were playing with that same Doak Walker winner. (but as I pointed out earlier, STaley wasn't even close to dominant during 2000). Doman came in and lit it up, with his attitude and leadership. If you don't think that those matter then I guess Heaps is our best option.
