If 16 team superconferences is the norm, the Big Ten is going to have to go to 16. The general sentiment is that the leading realistic candidates from the Big Ten's standpoint are Mizzou, Pitt, Syracuse, and Rutgers. Notre Dame and Texas are always considered longshots. But two of the realistic teams have jumped to the ACC, so that could cause the Big Ten to target Notre Dame, Texas, Missouri, and Rutgers. Notre Dame will be one of the last teams to join a conference, so it wouldn't surprise me to see the Big Ten be the last to end up at 16 because they'll try to hold out.

It will be interesting to see if the Longhorn Network causes the Horns to join what is still a basketball conference (even with expansion teams). From a football standpoint, I'd think the Horns would prefer to Big Ten or Pac 12.

I'm still optimistic that this doesn't destroy college football. The ACC has acted as a precautionary move. It's obvious they are terrified. The real players in this game are the Big 10, the SEC and the Pac12. The ACC is a reactionary conference. Do you think the Big 10 is really scared of a 14 team ACC? I don't think so. None of the big players want to go to 16. They won't feel forced to do so just because the ACC has expanded.

That being said, I would love to see the Big East die here. The Big 12 needs to act now. They need to get West Virginia and South Florida to go to 11. Then invite BYU to make it to 12. If they want to match 14 you can grab TCU and Louisville. Yeah, the Big East is collapsed as a football conference but the other big 5 can survive without it at 12-14 schools. I don't think anyone is going to force the SEC and Big 10's cards except for those conferences themselves. This can still end well.

Well, no one is at 16 yet.

For now.
