Wanna fix the run game?

Give the ball to Kariya. If our O-line isn't getting it done like they need to, give it to the guy who takes a couple hits before he goes down. Our run game looked pretty bad versus Texas, and how many times did Kariya touch the ball? Yep, that's what I thought. Just food for thought, we gave the ball to Alisa several times, but Kariya's getting no love from Doman.

I thought Kariya had some minor injury or something last week and that's why we didn't see him?

He was sick is what was reported. He is cleared to play Saturday. I agree. Give him the ball for some straight ahead running. Mix in JJ. They are different and do different things. Both can catch a pass and do someting with it too.



There is a chicken and an egg going on here. If Jake settles in and makes the throws early, the runnng game is going to open up. If the running game blows open some holes, the Utes will quit laying back their ears and coming after Heaps.



The Utes are gong to come after Heaps until he starts making throws with guys in his face, hanging onto him, and making contact. They just are. BYU is coming after Wynn. Same story. Same reason. FInd and hit a hot receiver on the first couple of blitzes, and they are going to back off. Jump around and make bad decisions or bad throws under pressure and they are going to keep coming - maybe even harder. You saw what we did to the starting QB at Texas with pressure - ended his career. Heaps and Wynn are in for a similar test Saturday. I hope Pizza passes the test. I hope Wynn struggles and has to use next week to improve.

He still played, however limited, but didn't get the ball.

I am sorry, but I don't see Kariya fixing the running game. I love the kid and I appreciate what he brings to the football team, but he is more dependent on the oline than either of the other two backs.



I think last year and this year have really presented a strong case that the offensive prowess of this team is correlated to DiLuigi's productivity. I think we ought to just commit to him and play to his strengths.



Play JJ and Kariya in two back sets so the defense has to be mindful of both. Use Kariya to keep the defense honest and get JJ the ball on the edge, in the flat, and in the midrange passing game.



Is there a more valuable offensive weapon (outside of the quarterback) on this BYU team than JJ?

DiLuigi had more success running than Kariya did against Texas.



They are different backs for different downs and scenarios. I see DiLuigi as a first down back and Kariya/Alisa/Quezada as a 2nd or 3rd down combo.

The only person on the entire team that didn't have more success than Kariya rushing the ball was Heaps, who got sacked and ended up with negative rush yards. I disagree with this entirely. JJ's whole running game has to do with dancing around in the backfield until a hole opens up. He depends the most on the offensive line getting blocks set. The other two - and Kariya especially - can run north/south whether or not a hole has been opened up. JJ's moderate speed isn't going to do anything around the corner against the Ute defense. They are scary fast.

I can think of 10 other guys that are bigger offensive weapons than JJ... And that's just the starters.

I think you have things totally backwards. Kariya consistently gets three to five yard gains when players miss their blocks, he's like the pineapple express jr. JJ, on the other hand, only gets positive yards when everyone plays their assignments. He has good speed and is elusive, but it only takes one man to bring him down.

Kariya was sick with flu like symptoms, and that is why he barely played vs. Texas. HE was basically unable to go. FYI.

I'm don't necessarily believe everything I just said I was exaggerating, but yeah I also do agree he sadly has been the only offense for most of a year but that's a shame to me because the way I see it in terms of ability JJ is the 4th best runningback on this team behind David foote. But that's entirely my opinion so take it for what it's worth.

Anyone watching Moore and BSU tonight? They are putting on a clinic for short passes substituting a run game when you can't get it started. Timing patterns for 5-7 yards. Moore just went 90 yards, 6-6 and ended the drive with a TD against what appears to be a half decent Toledo defense.



I know this has been mentioned, but a HUGE problem is teams are not respecting BYU's passing game. They've been able to keep their corners on islands and sent everyone to stuff the run or go after Heaps. BYU has not taken advantage of this and it allows teams to keep doing it all game. Eventually have to make a defense pay for such an aggressive defensive.

Moore was unstoppable. Perhaps Doman and the crew ought to watch some films from the BSU's offense. No running game...yet Moore still managed to throw over 400 yards and 5 tds.
