The Honeymooners - Players

Ok - for which BYU Player is the Honeymoon most over. I have listed the various player Honeymooners below. Vote once.

Heaps. He can make all the throws. He has tons of potential. He talks a good game. Can he throw accurately and make good decisions with a Ute in his face? Can he do it on the field of play like he does in skellys?

Juice. Has his headaches become too much of a headache. Can he really do anything that Kariya and JJ aren't accomplishing? Will he ever out run anyone or roll over anyone? Will he be an NFL talent?

Hoffman. OK he had us drooling most of last year. Has he disappeared? Is he busy watching Apo? Or is Heaps just not taking the time to look downfield under pressure?

Apo. OK the finger is healed. He has been a bright spot at times. Not what we hoped for yet. See Hoffman above. IS Apo the real deal or just another high potential guy.? Will the announcers ever figure out how to pronounce his name?

I think the honeymoon was pretty much over for everyone else except Drew Phillips last year. And it was over with Drew before school started without him. So I will not put Drew on the list. We also had Pritchard, a really good fullback in a “potential” sense go down before he got a chance to show us what he had. He is not on the list this year. I don't think place kickers and punters ever get honeymoons, so I have left them off the list too.

I picked Jake Heaps. He is the tide and it is time for the tide to rise. I have not given up on Heaps - I still see the potential. I need to see it on the field vs good defenses soon. Utah would be a great place to show it.



They are all young and inexperience is a factor. They were thrown in too soon - out of necessity. But they are not super human. Too many fans expected Apo and Hoffman to dominate SEC and Big 12 defenders. The most you realitically should expect is that they are competitive in that environment. Those teams are loaded with players with that talent level.



BTW - the honeymoon for Reynolds ended last year when fans said he was not a leader and was over-rated. That is why he is not on the list.

I picked Jake. A USU Freshman can put up 40 in his first two games, and against the National Champs. Heaps has a full year and we are still trying to give him time to learn. I think his New Mexico MVP has gone to his head. Enough excuses, he needs to produce.

Jake is soft and not leading us to any notable victories. There is not a single game that we've won since the beginning of last season that we could not have won with a backup in there. The rest of the guys listed are far too new (or not even starting--Juice) or dependent upon the QB play to take much blame.

I edited to fix a typo via iPad and the poll disappeared. I will edit from my PC and put it back, but we all have to recite. You will be able to change your vote later - like Saturday night for example, so vote early and vote often. Same goes for coaches poll. I will not be fixing any more typos.

Heaps. He's the guy that has had the most opportunity and done the least with it. RBs have been consistently bad, but they've had very stout D-lines and poor blocking. Hoffman and Apo, can't really tell because you aren't being shown their routes. Quezada has been an unfortunate story, but can't knock the guy if he can't play.



Simply put, if Jake elevates his game, everyone else gets better (WR, RB, TE, etc) He's also the most visible and the easiest to notice. But if he turns it around, he'll be receiving all the praise and the highlights. Cuts both ways.
