Hey guys! Been crazy for me...but wanted to

say great game! Took my 2 boys with me and we were all very impressed with how hard your team played and how quick your guys were defensively. Hope whoever went to the game enjoyed Austin even if we are brown and having a drought. Also, hope you enjoyed the food, the stadium atmosphere and the fans. Your team has a lot to be proud of!



Looking forward to our games in 2013 and 14 as well and hope to bring my family up to Provo. Hear it's a great place to see a game.

Provo is great. The surrounding mountains are spectacular. Be sure to drive up some of the canyons. If you are able to catch the autumn leaves it will be nice.

Come to Provo, you will not regret it. One of he most beautiful setting for CFB in the nation with the mountain views from LES. FSU fans loved it 2 years ago, and every new fan base that comes enjoys the stadium atmosphere. Not quite as large or loud as a Texas game, but definitely BCS caliber experience.

but what hotel/motel do ya'll recommend? Also, would love to tailgate with some of you as well. No, I don't drink by the way, but love good BBQ of course! :)



If you can stand a family with Longhorns gear on that would be very cool.

As long as you're not wearing a red 'U' you're welcome with me and my family anytime! :) I would love to tailgate with Texas fans when they come up to Provo!

Provo Marriott is best bet. Have to book early. Otherwise, all the rest are pretty similar.



Don't expect any awesome Texas BBQ, but there are a few good places to eat in town. And tailgating is sparse, but trying to improve that game day experience now.

Mormons are notoriously cheap - I mean frugal. I always stay with a relative or get on Priceline.com punch in 2 1/2 or 3 stars and try $35.00 plus taxes and often hit the Jackpot and get a Mariott Courtyard or reasonably comparable room. I have never had to offer more than $50.00 using the "Name Your Own Price" feature. I use it and other sites for airfare and rental cars too. There really isn't a bad side of Provo, but near campus or South of town right by I15 are very good. Now if you want to go a little more out of the box - Choose Midway or Park City instead of Provo. The Homestead in Midway is very nice and not shockingly expensive. That would put you 30 minutes from the Stadium and you would love the drive up Provo Canyon and it is nestled below Snake Creek Canyon, near a great golf course, and near Deer Creek Reservoir. The scenery will knock your socks off. Even if you stay in Provo, drive to Midway while there. More adventurous - Daniels Summit Lodge up Daniels Canyon 20 miles east of Heber City, my home town, on why 40 near Strawberry Reservoir is rustic and right in the trees. Strawberry has great trout fishing if the game is early enough to avoid snowy weather - ie Sept or Ocy or early Nov. Another nice drive after already taking Provo Canyon on the way then Daniels.



Too rustic. Go to Heber and then West on why 40 and follow signs to Park City. There are lots of places to stay in Park City and it is an hour from the stadium and loaded with restaurants due to the ski resorts.



Or a well kept secret ski resort - tiny compared to Park City is also up Provo Canyon and then to the left - Sundance. Robert Redford owns it. Limited lodging. Beautiful. Great restaurant. 25 minutes from the Stadium.



Provo Canyon is the gateway to everything above.



Go North on I15 instead if you want to stay in Salt Lake City an hour or less from the Stadium. Grand America is the only 5 Starish place around. Little America has the same owner and is across the street. SLC is loaded with everything from 1 Star up. Tons of restaurants. There are bad parts of town. Hard to go wrong in East foothills but watch for Ute fans. Area around Sandy would have nice 2 1/2 to 3 stars and be 40 min to stadium.



Add 30 minutes to all times right at game time or at rush hour.



In Provo, there is a Brazilian BBQ you have to try. Tuscanos, iirc. Also, if you like burgers - try 5 Guys. I will let the locals add to the restaurant list.

If you like sushi (or sashimi) then the "Happy Sumo" is some of the best around there.



There is a chinese place called "Shoots" right next door that is great.

My recommendations:



It's actually Tucanos, not Tuscanos. Awesome place, check out their website.



If you like Indian food, Bombay House in Provo gets rave revues from everyone.



Thai Drift (Orem) is my favorite Thai food around.



Brick Oven in Provo is a family friendly restaurant that's been around forever (good pizza, pasta, soups and their garlic bread is amazing). It's always packed. Another great family friendly place in Provo is Pizza Pie Cafe. It's a pizza, pasta, and salad bar buffet. Quality is quite good for a buffet. It's always packed as well.



Of the non "sit-down" variety there are some really good options:



J Dawgs in Provo will serve you the best "dawg" (beef or polish) you've ever had. They have a special sauce that's just plain addicting.



Cafe Rio (multiple locations)-great burritos and salads; a spin off of them is Costa Vida (multiple locations)- Their quesadillas are amazing and I actually like their salads better than Cafe Rio. Gotta try the sweet pork at either place.



Cafe Zupas (multiple locations)- Really good soups, salads, and panini's



DP Cheesesteaks (multiple locations)- From all accounts they're Philly quality. I love this place.



JCW's (multiple locations) or Burgers Supreme (Provo)- Are my favorite local burger joints. JCW's has amazing thick shakes as well.



Kneader's- Best sandwiches around (many bread choices, all made fresh in house). Also make really good pastries.



Then you have the big chains like P.F. Changs, CPK, Carrabba's, Macaroni Grill, Olive Garden, Red Robin, Texas Roadhouse, Cheesecake Factory (a bit further north), etc.



Salt Lake has a lot more to offer, in the restaurant department and it's only about 45 min. away depending on where you're coming from.

Other than losing the game, my only other disappointment about the trip was that I didn't get to see Austin/San Antonio when they're not in the midst of a terrible drought. Brown and barren, indeed. I expect I'll be back again someday, though. Thumbs up to the Longhorns fans. Very friendly. The entire day I was in Austin the fans were gracious. Worst thing that anyone said the entire time was before the game when a student offered me a beer with a smirk on his face, to which I replied I needed a man's drink. Then one fan turned around in the second half and yelled "BYWho?" That's it. BIG thumbs up to the classiness of Texans the whole trip!

Yeah, this drought has been horrible but rain is in the forecast. Thank you!!!! Very cool you had a positive experience! Talked with some BYU fans before and after the game and very nice and classy folks win or lose.



I'll be rooting for you guys the rest of the way and I know you have a big ol game with Utah this week. Good luck with that! Again, looking forward to flying out to Utah in 2013 and watching our teams collide again. I think both teams will be much improved and primed to make some things happen nationally and I don't expect anything less than a hard fought game.

Delta Airlines has a hub in Salt Lake City. Check them for flights. There is not a lot of competition flying into SLC, so booking early is a good idea to keep fares reasonable. Cafe Rio as someone posted above is a great, family-friendly place for Mexican food. It is a walk-in, point at what you want as they prepare it in a food line, and hand it to you at the register, under $10.00 kind of setting. Find your own seat. Etc. But fun and good.



If you love great Mexican food, tough to compete with Texas or California, but maybe one of the locals can give us the name of the Mexican Restaurant at the Old Union Pacific Train Station in Salt Lake City at about 2nd South and 2nd West area. A friend took me there in August and it was superb.
