Here's a scenario. There are currently 67 BCS teams (to be 68 next year when TCU joins the Big East). The Big 12 implodes. Not all 10 of those teams are as valuable to a super conference as BYU would be. Before the Big 12 teams find new homs, the BCS is now down to 58 teams. Let's say the Big East also dies and the SEC, B1G, ACC and PAC12 fight to become the 4 16-team super conferences. With the Big East dying there are no only 49 BCS teams. They need to add 15 teams to get up to 64. Those 15 teams will come from the 10 left in the Big 12 and 9 in the Big East. Throw Boise into the mix and BYU needs to be more valuable than about 6 teams to be included.
You tell me if you think BYU is worth more money (fans in the stands, product on the field, and eyeballs on tv) than six of the following:
Texas
Texas Tech
Oklahoma
Oklahoma St
Kansas
Kansas St
Missouri
Baylor
Iowa St
Cincinnait
Pittsburgh
Louisville
South Florida
West Virginia
Connecticut
Rutgers
Syracuse
Boise State
TCU
I think BYU is worth more to a super conference than the following programs:
Boise St
TCU
Rutgers
Iowa St
Baylor
Kansas St
Connecticut
South Florida
Texas Tech
Good points. The question is which conference would want byu over those other teams. it won't be the big10. they take notre dame, pittsburgh, and probably rutgers/syracuse (then maybe west virginia depending on if they would rather go there or go to the sec or kansas if they can get just them).
sec doesn't want byu. they take missiouri, a&m, and then two others that will not be byu. they will probably have first pick. kansas, lousiville, west virginia or cinci all get in over byu.
For byu it probably comes down to acc or pac12. i think that it is likely that ou, osu, texas, and texas tech go as a package deal to acc or pac12. that means pac12 or acc has four spots to fill.
the pac probably gets those four teams leaving the acc to pick four leftover. i think they get last dibs. Who is leftover at that point? Does byu get in? Who the crap knows.
