It Feels The Same

As last year the week of the USU game. I am calling it now that we lose to the pukes this Saturday. I am about to get violently ill from posting this.

The caveat here is if Bronco can light a fire under the offense like he did with the D last year the week of the SDSU game. Right now our offense is a bunch of deer-in-the-headlights guys who don't have a clue how to win when the pressure is on. If Bronco can orchestrate the turnaround with the O that he did with the D last year, we win. If not...

We haven't beaten Utah in a long time when both teams were considered evenly matched. We have been blown out when Utah was expected to win and we have barely beaten them when we were supposed to win. Our team had no fire last week. None.

Utah gets more up and prepared for this game than BYU does. Unfortunately this year won't be any different. :~(

Bronco will do nothing for the offense. That is Brandon Doman's job. Doman has a lot of fire, I hope he can get his players to play with that fire this week. I think BYU is going to win this week because I don't think that utah's offense is going to do anything against this defense.

Feel the same as last year? Why? The feel this year is way different. This year we won on the road already, and then almost won on the road again. last year we won ta home, then got punked on the road, and looked the worst I have seen a BYU team look on offense. That AFA game was worse than Texas. Plus, our D is sorted out this year and playing really well, while last year after the AFA game, everything was a mess.

Look, the O is clearly struggling, but I have faith that it will get sorted because we have talent and solid coaching, it just needs to gel and find its rhythm. And the D is exactly what we hoped for.

We will win Saturday, and it will be easier than we think. Not because we hang a huge # on them, but because they will struggle to get 250 yards of total O on us. Same as Ole Miss, except without the pick 6.

I disagree. Last year we were losing to teams that are waaaaay way under our talent rung. This year this will not happen.

We might not win close/evenly matched games, but we won't lose games that are supposed to be a blowout.

While I am as disappointed - and to some extent disgusted - with the second half of the Texas game, I think a little patience will probably pay off here. This BYU team is way ahead of where it was last year, but not as far along offensively as we expected this year.

We lost by one point, on the road, in Texas, who is currently in the top 25. Were we the better team? It certainly appeared that way to me. Were we outcoached? Probably so.

That being said, Heaps and Doman are just a few adjustments away from blowing this thing into the stratosphere.

The Ute passing game is in trouble...so they will probably try the misdirection and delayed option stuff to force BYU into a soft base defense. Don't think it will work.

The Utah defense appears to be good...but is anyone REALLY sold after the Montana State and USC games?

At some point, BYU will not need these early season tinkering lessons...but for this week, I like that we are at home and Doman learns his lessons.

BYU wins this game by two scores. 35-21.

It's not that we lost on Saturday, it's how we lost and how we won the week before. I have been very excited about the possibilities of BYU teams in the past after a loss, because they were beat by a clearly better team. You could see the fire and potential. I don't see that right now from our offense.

We won the first week because of D and were in the game Saturday because of D. The offense has done nothing the past two weeks to make me feel like anything will change on Saturday.

We have played two halves out of the past 4. That won't get it done.

You mean you are uncomfortable winning with defense? I think it is something BYU fans need to wrap their minds around really fast, because it is where we are headed. We are headed to winning with ball control, time of possession and having a solid to spectacular defense, with a pro stye offense that takes shots, but is not trying to score 40 every game because we have to. We want balance, not throw it 50 times, run in 20. We want fewer plays, not more. For reference, see USC, Alabama, and other top tier teams that try to win this exact same way. The Ravens and Steelers and other teams won SuperBowls with this approach. And we just lost at TExas by 1 with it. Early days, but it is working if you ask me

What makes you think that BYU can put together 35 pts in a game when we have played two games and scored a total of 23? I would love to see that, in fact I would be ecstatic, but I want some of the crack you are smoking.

Utah's D will give us the same fits that Ole Miss and TX did. The only BYU WR that has beaten Utah's man press coverage is AC. We don't have anyone even as close to the talent level of AC on this team. Not even close.

I love the optimism about this team but don't have a clue where it is coming from. I don't think we are a few adjustments from blowing it wide open. We have so many problems on offense, I don't think there is any way it can be fixed in a week with a couple of adjustments.

I love the idea of winning with defense. I love our defense and think they are the best D in a long, long time, potentially ever. The D isn't the problem. I don't care how good your D is if your O can't score. Our O can't score. If you would have told me before the season we hold Ole Miss to 13 and TX to 17 I would have been thrilled. But then I saw our offensive performance and I wanted to puke. We had TX on the ropes and then gave up. Our offense has no heart, no punch, no ability to stomp on their throats when it matters. I am as excited about the D as anyone but I feel bad for them. They kill it out there and the O rolls over and plays dead.

People keep talking as though losing to TX by 1 pt is this huge accomplishment. Two years ago I would agree, but TX isn't that good this year. They are very beatable and we blew it. They exposed us as a great defensive but very poor offensive team.

Our offense flat out sucks right now. It is in serious, serious trouble. And anyone who can't see that is either blind or has their head in the sand. This dog don't hunt.

BTW, this is completely false, at least from what Doman said in the off season. We were supposed to be this high tempo, risk taking, shots down field type offense. That isn't what you describe above and it definitely isn't what we see on the field.

Here it is folks, the real reason Northerncoug is so upset. He was over promised and under delivered. I would be completely shocked out of my mind if BYU put up 35 points on utah. I would be equally shocked if utah put up 21 on our d. Saturday is going to be another slow down, grind it out game. BYU will win though my prediction will be 16-3.

Exactly. This isn't rocket science and that is what I have been saying for two weeks now. I am so tired of Bronco allowing his coaches and his team to run their mouths as though an undefeated season is in the bag, and we have so many weapons, etc. etc. and then we come out and look like we have never played before.

I like your prediction except for the 16. I honestly don't know if we can score 16 against Utah's D. I haven seen nothing yet to tell me that we can.

The over promise, under deliver thing is a huge issue. Not only do we do that regularly, but Doman and company look lost. It's one thing to know what the problem is and be able to fix it. It's another to not have a clue what the problem even is. I am afraid that Doman is the latter.

So many people talking about Anae sucked and all we had to do was get rid of him and all would be well. Anae is laughing right now about it. My problem is that I drank the kool-aid and shouldn't have. Too many of you are still doing the same.

Utah will score a touchdown on us. Wynn is not afraid to air it out and his receivers are good and physical. they won't score much. The question is, how much are we going to score.

I expect a low scoring game again.

BYU needs to figure out how to handle man coverage when they play against decent athletes. Our coaches needs to address this issue. It is obvious that it is our greatest weakness.

Bronco said earlier this week that he expects the team to throw down the field on 25% of its pass plays. 1 out of every 4. And down field generally means 10+ yards past LOS. That balance sounds about right to me. and probably jives statistically with NFL ball control teams. It also jives with a West Coast offense, which I hope we morph into soon. We need to find more ways to get the ball into the hands of our outside WRS, even if in 2-3 yard drag patters, 2-3 yard slants, etc. Get the ball in their hands, and let them make a play. Right now, the WR/TE combo is only getting 25% of all balls total, and that has to change.

I think you are being overly pessimistic. Ole Miss and Texas both have defenses that are probably equal to utah. Texas has more 5 star athletes on its defense then BYU and utah have combined on their teams. I think that 16 points is doable on utah since BYU just scored 16 on what I think is a much better defense then utah's.

This is simply asinine. Do you realize how impatient and fickle you sound right now? You sounds like a fan Bronco was referring to a few seasons back, if you ask me. Wow, you gave the team 2 games to blow the doors off of teams with our offense, and since we did not do it, it is an epic failure of overpromises and cluelessness.

Not buying your brand of negativity right now. Not at all.

I wasn't expecting 30 pt wins. I was expecting to at least attempt to do what Doman said would happen. When my 20 and 18 year old daughters each text me after Saturday's game and say, "Dad, I thought this team was supposed to be really good? I thought Doman was supposed to be much better on offense. We look just like last year." I know we have a serious problem.

I want us to do what Doman said we would do. Right now he is channeling Anae. We aren't even close to what Doman said we would do. We will look back at Ole Miss and TX at the end of the year and see that neither team is great. I think TX will be good this year, but will struggle to win 8 games and Ole Miss will likely not have a winning season again.

If we score 20+ against Utah I will happily admit I was wrong. I'll be dancing in the street and no one wants to see that. Our offense is in serious trouble and Utah's D is as good as TX , maybe better, and better than Ole Miss.

You guys worry too much. I'm calling it right now. BYU will UCLA this :utard: team on Saturday. Wynn says he likes to "silence" 64,000 fans. Don't think for a second that Pendelton and Van Noy haven't been salivating over his comments for the last couple of days.

I am not impressed with their play against USC. Sarc beat a much more impressive USC team at home and on the road with a team that turned out to be inferior to our last year's team. This year's team is not last year's team. I reapeat. This years team is leaps ahead of last years team. Man up you girly fans. 8)

Maybe. I really hope so. But I think Utah's D is much better than Ole Miss. I wasn't impressed with their D much. When Southern Illinois can score 10 more pts and get 100 yrds more rushing than we did, that tells me that their D isn't that good.
