Looking Like Big12 is Done

Unless something spectacular happens, BYU may now become the stone cold sober island of college football.

hey at least we'll be the best island in the chain of islands. You think we have problems? We've got the the whole world in our hands compared to other casualties of The Big-Mess.



Imagine being ksu or iowa state with no BCS conference--Bye bye big bucks--that will be devastating to those programs--maybe even the end of some of their sports in the modern, state-budget cutting era.

3 more cheers for our growing pains in the MWorstC. We learned. trust not in the arm of flesh--unless that's ESPN's arm!! BUt even then, we have BYUtv baby. 3 cheers for those guys too! Provident living is no small win. It may not be superconference Big bucks. But you can guarantee, BYU will have its pick of those teams if ESPN still wants to cover those games. Our scheduling problems will lessen significantly bc those teams will be clamoring for any money out there. Even 2-for-1's in BYU's favor. And we will have the $. Now if we can get our commercial revenue challenges worked out for BYUtv, we will have a very attractive alternative.

I am not seeing any doom and gloom out there. OU is posturing to get concessions within the Big 12. UT already came calling to their campus to find out what their intentions are so OU is getting what it wants--attentions and leverage. My guess is they will keep up the charade for the rest of the next week or so then declare their intention to keep the Big 12 stable. After that and with legal barriers put in place BYU joins.

I agree. If OU and anyone else left do you know how hard Baylor and some of the other smaller Big 12 teams would go after them? There would be some serious lawsuits!

It will be interesting to see if they do make any concessions. They say that their plan A & B is to keep the Big12 viable. The only way to accomplish this is to make concessions and let their little brothers play with some of their toys.

ESPN.com is now reporting that Oklahoma is "nowhere near" a firm decision on a move. I hope it is just wrangling for concessions. Maybe I'm taking a narrow view, but if I'm Oklahoma I see an easier path to a national championship if I only have to get through Texas and Oklahoma State instead of Oregon, USC, Stanford, and Oklahoma State/Texas (if they go along). Why make it harder on yourself? And its not as if Oklahoma will find itself with no place to go if the Big 12 falls apart sometime in the future.

This just reminds me of last year, when everyone in the "know" was claiming that UT/OU/OSU/TT et al were as good as IN the Pac 10. It was a "done deal". They were just waiting for the ink to dry on the contracts. And then, on the eve of D-Day...it didn't happen. And later we find out that it really wasn't even all that close to happening.



I think (hope??) that is what is going on here. All of these OU/OSU to Pac and UT to ACC rumors just don't make a ton of sense to me. But who ever said that "common sense" has any place in CFB (see: BCS)
