Even with the offensive ineptitude, the stat that I was the very most disappointed in: ZERO SACKS



We were going up against the 2nd and 3rd string QBs. And we failed to put pressure on them. Was it because their line was so amazing? Nope. It was because we rushed 3 or 4 guys, even on 3rd and long.



Contrast that with USC, who blitzed the crap out of Wynn, especially on long yardage situation. They were bringing 5, 6, even 7 guys. Sometimes they were getting to Wynn a split second after the ball hit his hands!



If our LBs are the best part of our team...then lets use them for something other than pass coverage. And let's get creative and AGGRESSIVE with our blitz schemes!

I've only been half-following the threads since the loss, but I felt like the defense had some trouble shifting gears in the second half. Texas totally changed their gameplan, and went from more of a traditional-pass-and-run-offense to more of a tricky, option-oriented offense. Felt like that may have something to do with it.



Nonetheless, totally on board with you. I thought the defense played just decent in the 2nd half, with the 4th-down stand, not giving up TOO many deep balls, etc. But they never became a "playmaking" factor.

You can't get sacks when they aren't throwing the ball. Texas only threw the ball 4-5 times after they made the QB change, the rest were all running plays. That disapointed me more then anything, they ran all over our defense and seemed to do it with ease.

THis thread is misleading--its about defense. And I would think "ineptitude" is just dog-piling and horribilizing. The kind Bronco really loves--NOT.

As for the LB"s. Bronco himself said they did not prep for these other qb's, specifically in the form of a zone read run game and option.

Texas scouted and schemed against our aggressive blitzing and did a great job with adjustments. Our team did what they were prepped for. Disrupt Gilbert and get him to throw picks and contain the run. We did that really well in the first half.

BYU went into the locker room satisfied with their 1st half performance and made little adjustments and worse, let down their killer attitude. Both lines, O and D were controlled in the 2nd half. And that is why they started blowing up the middle of our line and reading our weak spots.
