It's Never Heaps' Fault

Last year it was Anae, it was the wide receivers, it was the tight ends, it was Nelson, it was Jaime Hill, but definitely not Jake Heaps, right? This year it's Doman, it's the run game, it's Nelson getting one play, hell, maybe it's the pickle juice! Anything we can blame to take the attention away from our mediocre-to-poor qb play, right? I'm not saying that we should be playing Lark or Munns, or that I was happy with every single play called during the game, but we need to recognize that we still have a young qb who has started half a season and he's not learning the ropes as quickly as we'd like, it's not that he "sucks," but we're going to have to deal with his growing pains as he becomes the qb we all are pretty sure he can be, and it's ok to recognize that.

Is it not Doman's responsibility to have his QB ready to play? Is it not Doman's responsibility to call plays that his QB is comfortable with running and will run well? Everyone blamed Robert Anae last year for the offense, I am just carrying on that theme. I don't think that Heaps is perfect but Doman promised an exciting pro style offense that ran most plays from one formation to make our offense unpredictable. I saw the same offense last night that everyone complained about under Anae......predictable.

I fully acknowledge that Heaps is struggling. I'm just not on the same train as those who say he flat out sucks and that the Heaps we're seeing right now is the best we're going to get.



It'll take a lot to convince me that Heaps has reached his plateau.

+1 I am in the camp that says that Heaps has all the tools to be good. It is up to the coaches to get him to fulfil that potential on the field. I am a HUGE Doman fan but he has underperformed from what he promised so far. Hopefully we see more of what he is capable of next week or we will be 1-2. Utah's defense is going to be every bit as good as the one we just played and lost to.

Here's what I don't understand - I don't get. BYU has the #1 rated QB coming out if High School in the USA, and he struggles 2 weeks in a row.



For 2 weeks in a row - the 3rd string QB comes in & lights it up! Isn't that what Jake heaps is suppose to do?



I'm not a Jake Heaps hater. I like him - I like Doman - I like Anae - I love Mendenhall. I'm just waiting for the potential to become reality.



BYU should NOT have lost against Texas yesterday. We were out coached & out executed.

Not sure what board Schmoe is reading, but it isn't this one. Plenty of Heaps blame being thrown around. Plenty of Doman blame, plenty of RB blame, plenty of O-line blame. Fact is, we are out of sync and it is hard to pinpoint any one thing because all of those things are lacking.



FOr me, I think Jake deserves most of the blame right now, with Doman #2. Jake is playing tentatively and not aggressive. He is afraid in the pocket. One read, then a quick dump off. THat is not solid football. Jake needs work on his progressions. He has the physical tools, just needs the mental tools to catch up--the toughness. I am not sure if play calling is poor, or if Jake is not letting plays progress enough, and I am going with #1 right now. Reminds me of Soph John Beck.



I still say we win the next several at home. We will be better at LES.

Actually, he's now started an entire season basically. Semantics, but worth pointing out. And I agree, he's having some serious growing pains. I was hoping we were past this after the end of last year. But good teams make Heaps struggle.

Well, McCoy (if that's who you are talking about) didn't exactly light it up, but he stared down a nasty BYU defense and got the job done. Something Heap's has yet to show me.



Along the same lines, How does Kellen Moore come in and just dominate from game one? And he wasn't even close to the same level in the recruiting game. BYU supposedly got the better QB in that class with Munns, right?
