Our Running Backs look TERRIBLE!

I noticed that BYU only rushed for a total of 43 yards against Texas. That is terrible. I feel that lots of people want to blame Heaps and Doman for the offensive struggles, but what about our run game? Our running backs looked terrible in this game. I think a more powerful run game would greatly benefit our passing game. I feel that our inability to convert in the red zone largely falls back to the fact that our run game is terrible. That is just my opinion.

Tell me the last time BYU had a running game against a good defense. Come on, let's here it.....

Did you really expect anything else?

Did you never watch Harvey Unga play? Or how about Luke Staley? I am not saying we need to be a dominant run team but we need to do better than 43 yards!

Well - they make it a point to stop the run and make Heaps throw. We seem to basically be missing Kariya and Juice for some reason. Texas has a very good defense and I think we all know that on our best day, we do not have speed at RB. We never do. So, we have what we have and we willneed to work with what we have all year. BYU is not good enough and usually is not good enough to put up a lot of points against defenses of the quality we have seen the last two weeks. Utah will be the same. UCF may be as well. USU seems to have some offense. We have some tough games coming up. We will be competitive - but we better play 4 quarters.

Utah has decent backs - lacking experience but more upside than ours. QB seems about equal between them and us. Both have offenses good for about 13-18 points vs Ole MIss, Texas, USC, etc. We both have very good defense. Luckily we finally get to play at home. WIsh the last two games were at home. We need to quit giving 1 and done or 2 for 1. But Utah is in Provo. Maybe that is worth 1 point. BYU 17 Utah 16

Yeah, I missed Luke staley cause I was on vacation in Ukraine for 2 years. Go back and tell me what Unga did against TCU, or Utah. Sure he ripped it up against the cupcakes of the MWC, but he did not look great against a good defense. And that's as much a problem with the offense in general as it is a running back problem. JJ had NOWHERE to go tonight. Sure, he dances a bit too much, but he had a guy in his face all night. That was a good defense, and BYU stinks running the ball against good defenses. Ususally our passing game is a bit more up to par though. Not the case this year.

I agree. JJ Dances too much, but he's by far our best offensive player. I think Doman abandoned the run too quickly and once we were a less than one dimensional team we were easy to beat.

Acutally BYU's offense was only good for 7 points against ole miss. Tonight the offense didn't have a miracle to bail them out of a pitiful performance.

I agree with you on the fact that he played against alot of cupcake teams but he did rush for 123 yards against TCU in 2009 when TCU was ranked #3. In 08 he ran for 116 yards against Utah. He also rushed for 141 yards against Utah as a freshman.

You're right, those numbers aren't as bad as I remember them being. But I didn't expect the running game to do anything, and I thought kariya and Q would be carrying the ball more. Sad night. Shoulda, woulda, coulda...

I don't think anyone thinks JJ is Harvey or Luke. And Harvey and Luke were borderline NFL backs at best. Teams like Texas always have an NFL caliber back or two on th efield. That size and speed combination can be brutal in the 4th quarter when defenses get a little bit fatigued. We do not and never do have those kind of backs. And yes, every 10-20 years we get a Staley or Unga. What we have now is as good as we usually have but <Unga<Staley<Texas always has re speed / size combination of athletic ability.

Our offensive line is the problem. The don't run block well. The don't pass block well. I don't know what all the hype is about Reynolds. Whenever I actually focus on him, he is underwhelming. He is slow, not a good run blocker, and is really only a good pass blocker. He doesn't do anything great.

I am really starting to think that Weber needs to go. The players begged Bronco to let him stay, but I'm thinking that might have been a mistake.

Here is to hoping that Adam Hine/Timo is truly the real deal...let's hope he wasn't ruined by the mission...2012 will be our year...LOL

Texas played 9 in the box. Tough to run on that. We weren't able to take advantage of the situation.

That pass that was low and behind Jacobson a bit what the game changing play. After that, did anything go right? BYU should have shredded Texas apart if they had 9 in the box with the supposed talent they have on offense. I think that Texas defensive coaches saw a vulnerable QB in film and decided to make Heaps win the game. And it worked.

This is also what Utah will try to do Saturday. Count on it. Hopefully Heaps is learning more than his interview quotes would indicate. DOman will probably get interviewed and give himself horrible grades and acknowledge specific mistakes. Heaps needs to do this too. But mainly, he needs to stand in when the heatis coming and not panick. He needs to take of running agressively when the pass is not there.

We quit pounding the ball inside and we shouldn't have. The lack of use of Kariya and Quezada was inexcusable.

someone was saying that those 2 were injured?

Putting 9 in the box to negate our O-line advantage and stop the run was a smart gameplan by UT--they were forcing BYU to beat them on the edges and with the wide receivers. Their speed at LB took away the edges, and our QB/WR tandem wasn't getting it done.

So how is DuPaix doing? Cahoon? Honeymoon still. Should we really fire a couple of more of our experienced coaches and get some popular new guys with no experience. Someone called for Weber's head above and many scoffed at Reynolds taking the tight ends - the only spot on offense that improved.

Fire them all. They lost to Texas by 1 point on the road in front of 100,000 fans and gave us Bad Exposure.

And if the new guys really all suck, fire Bronco. Nobody made him pick these particular coaches.

Hopefully you see the sarcasm. They are probably all going to be good coaches and we need to be patient while they learn.

Clearly we should have hired a Polynesian with no experience!
