QB3

QB3 worked out for Texas and helped them figure out what they have and don't have at QB. Obviously it was done out of necessity due to nothaving a clear number 1. But QB2 may be more of an on-going thing that seems to work without hurting momentum for Texas.



When BYU had Riley in and shifted formations and then had to call time-out and punt - it makes you wonder what BYU had in mind and if they had been able to do all of their shifting and just go, we might have gotten to see. It seemed every time they tried to work our version of QB2 into the game it came in slow and resulted in a time-out and time for Texas to think about it and what to do about it. If we are going to keep doing this - we need to get it in and get it off with an element of surprise executed with little time for the D to think about it and no tme to talk about it.

QB3 didn't win this game--the zone read option allowed them to score 14 more points, true, but our offense's inability to score more than one touchdown a game was the losing factor tonight.



The defense did their job--they held a ranked team on the road to less than 20 points. The offense looks to have spent halftime doing some chest-thumping instead of making adjustments.

I agree. If not thumping, then feeling comfortable or that they Just expended their energy in the first half. But on both sides of the ball. Tx played with the urgency of turning around from last year. BYU faded.

The qb2 exchanges were a total mess. Tx keyed in on Riley = option. I'm still holding out hope that this is a set up for the utah game and riley shows run, pulls back and passes. But they could have and shoud have used that in this game.

As for the schizophrenic taking Riley in and out and back in again--please!! If that is what's going on in Doman's mind then yes, its indicative of a new and unsettled OC. He's got to come unhinged and go for broke--both he and his QB.

As for QB3, I say give Lark some additional snaps in practice (yes, I said this)!!! Heaps needs to know that he must deliver now and not until he gets to the NFL. This is why Heaps and Wynn are NOT even close to Detmer.

Jake needs to find his Heart and start selling out or he will fiddle away his college. I'm not horribilizing like some fans. I think he and Doman, like last year will figure it out even if it takes inferior competition--but they better not wait til Idaho St. Bc USU will kill us with their O.

Is Riley Nelson a QB or what? Why don't we run his plays with Quezada instead? To make him effective, they need to let him throw while he is lined up out there. If we call an option every time he trots out on the field the D lines up to stop an option play and it goes nowhere. I would like to see him line up with 5 wides and then run or pass it. 5 wides spreads the d out all across the field and leaves Riley with single coverage on himself if he decides to run. This offense is just as predictable as it has ever been.

JAke needs to look down the field more, and not sare down one guy. That is my biggest complaint with Jake--he does not go through a progression. EIther his first look is open, or he dumps it off. And his first read not being open is in part because he is not reading the D well enough and also because Doman is not employing enough timing routes with the WRs. JAke needs to let his guys make a play on the ball, and is really gun shy. His lack of aggressiveness hurt us last night.
