This offense is wrong for Heaps.

Doman ties him down by calling run run run then short throws. Heaps doesn't throw a ball more than 10 yards all 2nd half untill a critical 3rd and long and THEN you are going to ask him to air it out??? You can't do that. That's how you ruin a quarterback

Heaps does not suck. I am as pissed as anyone about tonight, but doman play calling needs to change. Three tight en ds with an offset I formation and the primary route is the back out in the flat? We only put alisa in the backfield when we catches the ball in the flat. A little too predictable. We all talk about our fast athletic receivers, but that does no good when they don't get the ball. To me its mainly play calling

Heaps has options where to throw, if he's checking down, that's his decision. We had plenty of receivers past ten yards all game, but he didn't throw to them. Heaps threw the ball straight to defenders two times this game, one he misread the play that would have been a huge gain for JJ and killed all our momentum, and the second one he just panicked and pulled the trigger way to soon and overthrew his man. There's more than one problem with our offense: Doman? Sure. Heaps? Definitely.

Schmoe he does have options but you have to go through progressions as a qb and you start with the primary receiver if its open thats where you go. He needs to go through his progressions better, but if his first read is the flat and its open trays where he goes. I think that both doman and heaps need to figure it out. But doman needs to pull his qb aside and teach him. I the other issue is lack of pace, we allow the defense way too much pre-snap time to read our formation. Get to the line and go.

Question, though - are our receivers getting open? From the few deep passes Jake attempted, I can really only think of one where I thought, "That receiver was in a position to make the play, but the ball was thrown poorly."

3rd and 15, desperation situation. Tough to know where the ball is going in that situation isn't it? Heaps fault.



Delay of game? Always Heaps fault. Forget the fact that the dang plays are barely getting in on time on a consistant basis. Delay of game calls in this game were almost entirely the fault of the play not getting in.



Sideline throws? we took 2 shots downfield the whole game. Not too difficult to predict where the ball is going in that situation. I guess thats why we mix it up and call a draw play on 3rd and a mile from our own 20.



Heaps can make the throws. And one interception doesn't lose games. Having a predictable offense that doesn't make adjustments loses games.

Heaps never looked for a receiver down field after he got the late hit. He was too scared. I watched where he looked very carefully in the 2nd half and until the long pick he never even looked to see if he had anyone open past the line of scrimmage.



Doman's calls were not good either. Just bad offensively all the way around, but Heaps was the one who lost us the game.

Offense all around got a D. not enough to get the passing grade (a win) even with a terrific effort from the defense.



BYU should never lose a game when the opponent scores 17 points.

You may well be right. I'm just so filled with rage right now. It is obscuring my judgement. Better cool off and wait till morning to post.

He really seems to like the 5 yard out pass to a back. Yeah, right before it cut off BYU had the ball with about 6 minutes. Then it went to live and Texas had the ball for their last possession. Sounds like that possession went about as well as the rest of the second half. Glad I missed it.

I agree - I am ticked. This win was in the locker - just needed to put it away.



The only good thing about the night is that Yewtah lost. USC 17, Yewtah 14. Suhweet!



Now it's all set up for next week. Doman & Jake better get it "clicking" this week. If Yewtah can put 14 pts. on the board against the USC defense, and keep their offernse to 17? Well, we have a game on our hands in 1 week.

My vantage point at the game was this simple:

We controlled the LOS on both sides of the ball in the first half and Texas did in the 2nd half.

Heaps must and will get better as will Doman. Those 2 better figure it out.

But our O was stale. Our Oline was flat or tired. Th is offense needs to open up and go down field. Detmer threw a lot of picks on the way to a lot of Offense. Its being constrained.

i get this feeling as well. It feels very constrained. like everyone has a short leash. It doesn't feel fun.

I actually thought overall, that Jake Heaps played better this week than last. But I still believe that he is afraid of contact and plays to not get hurt. Notice when our defense has problems - it is when we have to worry about a QB making a throw or taking off running and need to cover both. Defenses do not need to worry about that with Heaps. Whether it is Heaps not wanting to play the non-throwng part of football or Doman telling him not to do it, against defenses this good, they will adjust and shut things down when they realize that dimension of the offense is not there.



Look at Michigan's miraculous comeback win in the big house over Notre Dame who seemed to have that game under control. He threw for 300+ yards and ran for 100+. If you are going to be the top QB in the country - you may not need to rush for 100 yards, but you need to be a threat to take off when receivers are covered or a play breaks down.



Jake did take off once today. He only got two yards and then laid down, but at least he went. He needs to do more of that and maybe not lay down so soon. I am not suggesting that he go Steve Young and especially not go JIm McMahon who would lower a shoulder instead of stepping out of bounds and took taking a hit a little to far.



After Jake takes a hit, he does seem to get jumpy - but not as jumpy today as in the first half last week. Jake's throws were more accurate today overall and receivers did drop a couple that should have been caught.



I noticed KSL gave Travis Uale player of the game. A couple of you told me my Underdog Bandwagon guys better perform today. I would give Uale a B+ or A-. I don't think I would give anyone an A thiw week - maybe Field Goal kicker. Our Dbs did OK - better than I expected vs that Texas speed, but they missed a couple of tackles, including Uale, on Brown on those bruising runs.



Texas wore down our D when the O didn't keep the ball long enough to provide rest and then the speed differential took over.
