Doman was embarrassing

I don't post a lot but I am going crazy...I can't believe how pathetic that was as far as coaching. To just give a possession away with 1:33 in the first half and a time out is so bad...played not to lose from that point on and caused us to lose...unfortunately we have a young offensive coordinator let's hope he learns and gets better...we have the defense to be awesome and all the right weapons on offensive just need to turn them loose...how good did our offense look when we were in no huddle up tempo and we go back to that stagnant down to the play clock crap...so FRUSTRATING

One of the worst play calling I have ever seen from BYU. And I'm old.... I am so disappointed in the "play not to lose" mentality BYU showed in the second half. Special props to Heaps for giving Texas the game winning points by throwing a pick inside our 30 yard line....

Does Domans offense even have WR in it? The slow boring huddle has got to go. When BYU ran the no huddle they moved the ball. But then again the no huddle ruins the plan for running out the clock. I mean that "2 minute offense" at the end of the 1st half was horrible. Instead of trying to score again Doman didnt trust his players or his play calling skills and was happy to let the clock runout. Just like he did with about 5 minute left in the 3rd quarter. Lets burn the clock instead of drawing the dagger out and sticking it into Texas chest.

Heaps was throwing to his first or second reads all night. Trouble is, with the plays they were running that first read was either the tight end on a play action fake or to a back in the flats. His INT very well could have been DiLuigi's fault or simply a miscommunication. Beyond that, 1 INT does not a loss make.



Doman should be freaking ASHAMED of himself. Terrible clock management, Terrible at getting plays in on time, especially in tight situations. No variety, no counterpunching. I swear we ran two plays all night.



And WTF is up with Riley Nielson? He comes in to put the defense off balance. Problem is that the defense, like EVERY FREAKING BYU FAN KNOWS, is going to run the option. Iou hear about how we are going to "creatively use Riley" and then I see this...Wow. Just wow.



Unfortunately, this isn't like the defense last year when Bronco bailed us out. There is nobody to step up for Doman. He better get better and do some "more soul searching".

Yeah...I am by no means saying fire him because he is just learning but this has really been pathetic...all we heard about was how dynamic his offense was and it would be constantly changing...r u kidding me? It is so vanilla and so sad...just bad...I hate when a team is dominating their opponent and a coaching staff goes conservative and tries to not lose the game and loses the game for their team...when are they going to learn that doesn't work...you put the throttle down and step on their throat...that is when you open things up even more and put teams away...so FRUSTRATING

I'm mad at Doman, and that was some awful playcalling.



Having said that, a one-point loss does not an embarrassment make.

To be fair.. there were some good drives in the first half where it looked like the O was clicking.. The big problem to me was the mentality.. When you're playing TX on the road, you gotta go for broke. A few stumbles are expected.. but running draws on 3rd and long, running out the clock up 13-3 at the end of the half, and constantly throwing screens against the speed of TX, completely imploding on that last drive. That 2nd half made Doman look reeeally bad.. embarrassing.

No, seriously, let's get their OC.

We walked into half time thinking we were going to run away with that game. TX came out fired up and played. We sat around shocked.



Lazy, sloppy football in the 2nd half.

Amen to what everyone else has said, but this point has been driving me CRAZY these first two games. Where are Hoffman and Apo!?! Anytime we get Apo the ball, we move the ball and we score. How can a BYU offense go for a whole half and not even attempt a pass farther than 5 yards? A draw play a 3rd and 9 when we absolutely needed a 1st down and our run has been shut down all game?! What the #@$%! is that?



Nothing is more frustrating to watch than seeing a coach call the "let's just try not to lose" plays as the game slowly and painfully slips from our fingers

I'm sorry Brandon but that is not BYU's old offense. And what happened to the "Were going to throw the ball down field".

No confidence in the players.



No killer instinct.



Sporadic creativity.



Horrendous clock management.



Right now it seems like Doman is overthinking each call. 2nd and 3rd guessing himself into making overly conservative decisions. Just freaking take off the training wheels and call the game as if you were playing NCAA Football on your xbox and have fun. You know Doman isn't having fun calling the offense this way. And we aren't having fun watching it.



The defense LOVES the game out there. They are so excited to play. Bronco has full confidence in them and calls plays that prove it.

Lies they were all lies, the offense of old talk the "were going to throw the ball down field", it was all LIES!! The truth is were going to run the ball into the heart of the D and throw the ball to the flat. And as soon as we get a lead were going to start buring the clock and take the foot and firmly plant it on the break.

Im so upset tonight Im sure there are things that I will regret saying later on but come freaking on. BYU was knocking the snot out of Texas. WTF happened? Couple of observations about 2nd half:



1. We got away from using the TE - Matthews and Holt.



2. We didn't do much on first and second down and put ourselves in third and long - TX reared back and came after us with a vengeance.



3. Their DL was owning our OL in the second half with lots of penetration into the backfield.



4. We were too predictable on offense while TX opened it up with lots of play action option runs and passes.



If our offense doesn't come to life soon we will be hoping he defense bails us out in scoring every game.

I started this post and I am more frustrated now then when I started it...I keep thinking about the way we folded up and squandered that game and what it would have meant to go in and knock Texas in the mouth and beat them and I am going crazy...what is Doman doing? BYU football of old? Are you kidding me...what is so unbelievably frustrating was to see how awesome our offense looked when they were going up tempo no huddle and then have to turn the T.V. back on and see every team in college football slinging the ball around and scoring points and being reminded that we are running some quasi I formation pro style crap that is just suffocating our talent...the talent to be great...F.F.F.

I think Heaps is too afraid of getting hit right now to throw it down field. Hopefully he can calm down a bit and get his head back into the game and start making the right reads.

This. BYU got charmed with their own effort (mostly gilbert's) that they fgured they could take a half off. Everyone from coaches on down are to blame for that loss.
