I've considered doing that too. There are a few problems as I see it.



1. The 'Y' in the oval is slightly different from the block 'Y' as found on the mountain, it is rounded to conform to the roundness of the oval, so the look wouldn't be exactly the same.

2. You would have to mount both the oval and the 'Y' to another object as there would be no really good way to connect the oval to the Y itself, unless you did at the corners of the blocks, which I think wouldn't look great.



Anyway, those were my thoughts as I thought about getting the oval around it.

Yeah...seems like it would take an engineer...and I'm no engineer. Doing the oval Y in Christmas lights in the front yard is hard enough!

Taking orders now?

I don't know if LadyHawk can handle that much cursing again. It's kind of a pain in the rear to cement all those pvc pipes together at the right angles.

Certainly not an engineer, but definitely a closet DIY guy.



Couple of thoughts on doing the oval. One idea would be to get two sheets of 1/4 plywood and cut out half of the oval and Y in each piece of ply wood. You could get a piece of butcher paper to create the pattern and would only need to draw out half the oval and y since the two halves would mirror each other.



You could then take each half and put some hinges on the back so the oval folds up for easier storage and less perturbed spouses. A couple of brackets on the back can be used to build a PVC pipe stand and mount the oval to the stand.



Only problem might be reinforcing the oval as the plywood may flop over a bit, but the Y in the center ought to keep it sturdy. You could have pvc pipe or some light gauge metal rods extend from the stand to the oval edges if needs be, though. Paint the support rods black so they don't show up, paint the oval and Y white, tack on the LED lights, and you should be humming.



Ought to be able to do with just a jig saw, which if you don't own I'm sure your home teacher, EQ pres. or HP pres. does. If you're in the market for a jig saw, they're like $50.

As for the Oval, I was thinking along your lines Hawk... You would have to mount the pvc to a background object of sorts, so that you could curve the PVC. It might have to be done in halves, as the PVC wouldn't be that flexible, especially if it was shorter. But it could be done. The interesting thing would be to use white LED's to light the Y, and Blue LED's to light the oval. If done right it has the potential to look awesome!

Forget PVC that stuff, it is from the past. What you want to do is go get some 3/4' poly-vinyl sprinkler/irrigation pipe, it's flexible enough to be oval shaped but strong enough not to collapse. You may have to put some sort of structure behind it to keep the oval just perfect. However, you just need couplers and male and female adapter's to connect the pipe, No glue/cement. It's green but throw some white paint on there and you've got the oval. Now making the Y that is a different story. After seeing the masterpiece hawk provided us. I'm thinking about getting a big piece of steel (12 gauge ought to do it) Getting my grinder with a cutting disc and trace out the oval and cutting it out. Some white and blue spray paint and a few strands of White and Blue LED lights later I have the Y oval For my lawn!!!! Thanks for the inspiration Hawk

This is one time where I wish I lived in an area where putting a giant Y on my lawn meant something other than I'm crazy.
