states that a&m was admitted 10-2. also states that west virginia is on radar as 14th. didn't want missouri for fear of collapsing big12.

I truly believe SEC is in no hurry to see Super Conf happen. The current BcS system works well for the SEC. PAC may be foolish enough to blow up the Big 12, but then they usually don't win NC in current system. It comes down to whether T and O want the PAC. The door is wide open. Hopefully they take door B and save Big 12.

Totally agree. SEC has won the last five BCS titles, and already has oodles of TV money. They are in no hurry to change the status quo. However, I think grabbing A&M and one other school, not from the Big XII keeps the Big XII alive, but allows the SEC to get to 16 easily if the Superconference thing happens. They could easily grab Virginia Tech for the DC Market and someone else (Florida State, Clemson, whoever).

All this maneuvering by Oklahoma is to get a TV deal like Texas. They really don't want to join the PAC-10 because that would be a terrible on the travel. The WAC tried the 16 team conference, and that didn't go so well. You have to believe that ESPN and others also do not want it because almost all your games would be played in conference, which would eliminate a lot of the exciting match-ups. I think that kills a lot of the excitement of college football.

They need to stick with the conference thing and go to a playoff using the current BCS system. I would actually be in favor of going to the old tie ins--Big 10 and Pac 10 to Rosebowl, SEC to Sugar Bowl, whereever Big East, ACC and Big XII went, and then a few at large teams. Use those games to create a playoff.

Superconferences would make the college football regular season a lot more like the NFL--which, to me, is not as exciting until the playoffs.

newest chip brown tweets state that the vote has a contingency, that each big12 school give them a waiver of liability. If this is true, A&M is looking might stupid right now because I can tell you two schools that are not going to give that waiver: Baylor and Iowa State.

He also said the 14th school sec had in mind is west virginia. this might give big12 leverage it needs to get schools like louisville and pitt to jump ship.

just more flames to throw on the realignment fire.

this whole situation seems like the proliferation of nuclear weapons during the cold war. Seems to me that neither nation really wanted to use them but they were afraid the other would.

If only the SEC and the PAC would talk and the PAC would realize that the SEC probably doesn't want 16 teams, the PAC could cool it's jets and leave the big xii alone. It behooves (channeling my inner Todd Christensen) the SEC to not be the first one to create a super conference, as has been noted above and the PAC would only go to 16, it seems from this article, to not be second in line in creating a super conference. I'm mainly afraid of irrelevance that would probably be attached to BYU football if super conferences happened.

I still think the MWC could have become a major player in this had they acted last summer. If they had approached Missouri and Kansas last year, they could have become the new BigXII.

They could have invited them by saying the Big XII was dying, that OU and TX were gone to the Pac-16. Come join the new MWC with Boise. This would have been a pretty good bball and football conference:

Missouri Air Force

Kansas UNLV

Boise St Colorado St

BYU New Mexico

Utah Wyoming

TCU San Diego St

Instead, they sat by and let Utah get poached and then let BYU and TCU walk. If they had been aggressive, they could have help kill the Big XII, stabilized their own conference and become a power conference themselves.

According to the Sporting News and New York Post, the Big 10 is looking to add Maryland and the Big East may go after the Kansas schools if the Big 12 falls apart and have 20 basketball schools. This thing is a mess.

It is tumultuous and foreboding times such as these when we need to return to the anchors of our faith. Remember the great words of one of our prophets, Elder Austinius Collie, "When you live right, magic happens." Not to be outdone, remember the anchoring words of our own injured and released Elder Maximus Hall, "I hate them. I hate their coaches. I hate their players. I hate their fans. . ." - something to that effect.

By anchoring ourselves to the "magic" future possibilities we can set a foundation of Puke hatred that will see us through the hard times. And no matter what the outcome of this impending upheaval, we can always, yes always, know that wherever we go and whatever we do. . .Harline will still always be open!

you honestly don't think they tried? No way would those teams jump if there was even a chance that big12 stays together.

No, I don't think they tried. I think they sat and watched and did nothing.

They could have added to the rumors that the Big XII was dying. Maybe OU and TX would have jumped if more teams had a landing spot.

But no, I don't think the MWC and Hair Thompson did anything proactive last summer.

Check that, the only time they acted proactively was to stop BYU from going to the WAC.

Yes, we can take heart that if armageddon happens, at least we're not Baylor (or even worse, ISU):

This articles reads "Please, pretty please, don't let the big xii disappear or else we're screwed!" Pretty self interested but not sure what else they should do. If the big xii does vanish they're done for. No other bcs conference would take them and they'd end up in the mwc.

Actually, I think if the MWC hadn't been saddled with the TV contract, they would have been in a great position to both expand and become an AQ conference. Utah, BYU, and TCU wouldn't have needed to look elsewhere, and things may have turned out very well. I think the whole thing was incredibly mis-handled.

This is crazy. Do you really think kstate and kansas would have proactively jumped down to the mwc? It doesn't make any sense.

They should have formed a new conference. The MTN contract kept anything logical from happening inside the MWC structure. The MWC is in no worse position to try this now, should common sense prevail - except Utah is gone , gone, gone. Bottom line is this. PAC, BIG 10, and SEC are rock solid relative to their future compared to anyone else. No matter what anyone did, a PAC offer comes along and just about anyone will take it. Texas and Oklahoma can be choosy if they stick together. Anyone else in Big east, ACC, Big 12, or any mid-major would have a hard time turning down the security of the Big 3.

Instead, they sat by and let Utah get poached and then let BYU and TCU walk. If they had been aggressive, they could have help kill the Big XII, stabilized their own conference and become a power conference themselves.

I think there may be a chance (and I think this is what Texas would prefer) for the Big XII to be proactive and jump to 16 first (say, BYU, BSU, ND, Louisville, Cincy, UCF, USF). They have little chance of being one of the 4, but by setting a precedent for cannibalizing the Big East, they could make a strong case to be one of the 5. They could lure schools with a "come as you are" incentive; want your own 2nd or 3rd Tier media contract? Sure! (as long as visiting conference teams get simulcast rights to locally-televised home games) Ditch the numbers and regional names; call it the National Conference.

Will the Big XII do anything like this? Of course not. Beebe is just as clueless as Hair.
