Apo - How hard can it be - Really?

Ok - we are talking about three letters here A - P - O. I can't believe how many different ways I heard that pronounced Saturday. It was mainly a variation of the pronunciation of the A - but sometimes it was also with hesitaton between the first and second letter and sometimes without.



Here in Hawaii, we get that lot becasue vowels are the same in Hawaiian but are pronounced differently. We also get the occasional ' to indicate hesitation that might produce that hesitation (A'po Vs Apo).



I heard

A as in Hay

A as in Apple

A as in Ahh Shucks or Awful

A as in a Uhh or up



Heard them all with and with out hesitatoin and with empasis on the begginging or the end.



Anybody have the definitive pronunciation?

that seems easy to pronounce. And if he plays so well that people everywhere know who Ross is - bonus for us fans.

Just Ross --- kind of like just saying Jimmer.

Wouldn't it be great if he earned that notoriety? :D :D :D

The 2011 Season Almanac shows a pronunciation as, Ah po. So, its Ah as in not-awful; and po as in Po Boys Chicken. The question I have is the emphasis on Ah or Po? I hav heard its on Po, but I hear most folks place it on the Ah.

His mom say Ah Po but he says A po like the A in apple. Personally I'll go with how he says it.

I'm not sure how it's said, but I'm pretty sure Rod Zundell is saying it wrong and doesn't know where the proper emphasis goes.

Mythranor has it correct. Ross has admitted on a TV interview that he and his mom pronounce it differently. Which I think is really weird. But I'll pronounce it however he wants me to as long as he actually gets some separation this week against the Texas DBs.

No one could get Unga right (I heard his dad interviewed one game say it OONG-uh, with a very soft g) after four years, can we expect more with Apo? (I've chosen AH-po, personally)

I would guess light on the ah and heavy on the Po. Just guessin. Maybe BYU could have fun with this. I understand the difficulty with Unga - he has 4 characters to deal with - Apo only has three. Well then you E. Manamaluena or something like that.

no, with the little p, it would suggest a slightly stronger emphasis on the Ah, but I think neither syllable is overly emphasized. Also, with it being a dash, I don't think there is a gutteral stop between the two syllables either.



I further think you're overthinking the pronounciation.
