QB Comparison - UofA vs Y

Interesting. I was wondering how Robert Anae did this last week. I just wanted to see how the U of Arizona QB vs BYU QB fared. Here ya go - week 1. No conclusions, just the statistics.

Now - it's true, Arizona played NAU (Northern Arizona University). I would venture their Defense is not even in the same universe as Ole Miss. If Jake had been throwing against NAU's Defense - he might have thrown for over 500 yds. Who knows. I just thought the comparison was interesting.



(I updated it & threw Yewt QB Wynn in for entertainment value. I think I'll do this again next week - as we lead up to the BIG game.)

I didn't think Anae was OC or QB coach at AZ. What is his role there? BTW - I think Robert Anae is a prety good coach. He rubbed people wrong. I didn't gravitate to his style. He was stubborn. He was predictable. He was fundamentally sound. His teams executed well and beat the teams they were supposed to beat except when he had to break in almost all inexperienced players in 2010. I am OK with the change that was made but did expect some learning curve issues. I like Doman. He will be fine. I really hope Robert Anae does well.

You are right - Robert Anae is not the Offensive Coord. or the QB Coach. He's the Offensive Line Coach. And yes - I think he is a pretty good Coach, pretty darn good guy too. I was just curious - nothing else. I hope he is happy and experiences great success. Personally, I like both of the Arizona schools (Uof A & ASU). I hope they thrash the Yewts whenever they play them in the PAC-12. Ha-ha-ha!

Just looked it up, he's the o-line coach and running game coordinator. So I don't really know how to make a comparison. And as you pointed out there were playing some weak sauce community college. I believe that Anae is a great planner and gets his team executing like clockwork. His weakness is unwillingness to change or adjust that plan once it's made up.

In addition to everything already said, Foles has been the starter since early in the 2009 season. That's like 22 starts to Heaps' 7 or 8. More big-game away-from-home experience too.

See what we have to look forward to when Jake is a Senior? LOL! Ya think Jake will still be playing for BYU? Who knows.

Foles is a good quarterback and so is Heaps. But Heaps has the potential to be great. They both have a pair of amazing receivers, but Foles has always struggled throwing downfield and I think his reads have not been what they could be. I think Heaps can definitely exceed Foles in that area.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Foles a 5th year senior? As such, he better be awesome when compared to a true sophomore. Heaps is the real deal, just not the finished article yet. I expect Jake to be really good by mid-October of this year. Another 5-6 games under his belt, with the weeks of practice is what he needs to continue to improve. And I trust in the coaches around him to help him get there. Just hope we can continue to lean on our D and win ugly when required.

This for two reasons. (1) Jake will improve week by week. (2) We will be playing cupcakes mostly by then. A W is a W. I am very happy we got the W at Ole Miss. I had predicted a 2 point BYU win.



We will need to play better on offense and special teams to beat Texas. I think we will. BYU 17 Texas 16. Something like that. Even I get a little blue-goggled once in a while.

Foles doesn't struggle throwing the ball downfield. Although, having a receiver like Criner really helps. Foles is much more accurate than Heaps and probably a better QB overall. But as stated earlier, Heaps is a sophomore while Foles is a 5th year senior.
