Last week it was Mississippi. This week it is Texas. In the spirit of understanding the culture and history of Texas, I present to you Important Texas Facts!

Texas’ state motto is "Texas sweet oil and not a Shiite in sight".

The state plant of Texas is the Bluebonnet. I thought it was cactus.

Texas gets its name from an Indian word meaning "the Rio Grande is Not That Wide Senor".

True trivia: if you flattened Idaho out it would be bigger than Texas; if you flattened Texas out, it would still be the size of Texas.

Alvin, Texas, set the record for rainfall in the US when it received 43 inches in 24 hours in 1979. That does not begin in match the amount of tears shed annually when OK beats TX in football.

More wool comes from the state of Texas than any other state. That’s why TX presidents include LBJ and Bush Jr.—they have enough wool to pull over Americans’ eyes.

Texas was actually an independent nation from 1836 until 1845, but that did not work so it went with the US. Sort of like Texas and the Big XII.

The most famous words in space are “Houston we have a problem” and they were not even referring to the Astros!

Texas has a state hero—it’s Chuck Norris kicking some terrorist this way and that

Ross Perot is from Texas and he ran for President too. He might have won except cameras could not get all of his ears in the frame for an adequate photo shoot

The world's first rodeo was held in Texas. Texans did this to formalize the joy of beating the crap out of a lot of different types of animals

What--you mean the Tea Party darling who in 2001 proposed bi-nationalized health care (think Obamacare, but pull everyone in Mexico into the pool as well) and the expansion of Medicaid and Medicare? Nah.

I'm pulling for the guy from texas that has the same initials as the texas governor. Except this RP doesn't have a history of flip flopping or supporting socialized takeovers of private sectors or of supporting fear mongering global warming theorists.

Hey I was always told the best way to find Texas from Kentucky (where I live) is you go West until you smell something, then South until you step in it!

That's Texas!

(which is the sign that you're leaving Oklahoma and entering Texas)

Well played Hookem. Score one for the Horns, minus one for sooners.
