Causing Injuries

I was reading some comments from Ole Miss fans during yesterday's game who were complaining that their 2 best RB's were out, and that somehow we did not get their best (or something to that effect). Someone help me understand this...we cleanly knocked the *$#% out of 2 monster players but that somehow diminishes our win?



We heard this before re: Bradford vs OU. I say: He was our D's scalp that game. Why is our ability to cleanly knock out your players discounted when the final whistle blows? Is the wussification of American really this much on a roll?



I say that if you can take out a general you do it and you should be rewarded and feared for doing so. If our D punishes someone for trying to run or throw a pass against us then we get all the credit and don't try to take anything away. This is not dance class! It's football.

Considering that we were in big bad SEC territory, I find this strange. I mean, weren't those guys supposed to just knock the #%*$ out of BYU?

All we heard about before was how big and physical the Ole Miss offensive line is, how big and strong Bolden and the other backs are, and BYU ate their lunch all afternoon. They were clean in doing do, but it was very clear that BYU's defense was far more physical that Ole Miss' offense. BYU's Defense was more physical than Ole Miss' offense, defense, and BYU's offense put together. They were inspired and mean. :)

I agree with you to the extent that I don't believe a team should go out on the field and SEEK to cause injuries in order to win the game. But if you're making clean, hard hits, and it takes a guy out of the game, it's hard for the other side to complain.

BYU has had a strong and physical defense for a long time. In 2006, TCU lost 2 games. One to us, and then a week later to the Utes. I submit that year TCU lost twice to BYU because the physical defense knocked several players out for following game (including their starting QB).



In 2009, BYU's physicality caused OU to lose several games that year.



BYU plays mean, physical and tenacious defense whenever Bronco is coaching them, and that's why they are so good.

It's just like Oklahoma two years ago. Bradford didn't simply "get hurt," we knocked him the eff out of the game. Gotta protect your guys from our monster linebackers.

They didn't say it wasn't clean. They said the same thing we would say if Heaps tried to tackle the guy on the pick six and separated his throwing shoulder. We would say they didn't get our best game. BYU was more physical than Ole Miss Saturday. I don't think the OP said they claimed otherwise.

Really, BYU was more physical? I guess. Certainly there was no lack of physicality. OUr WR may not see this much physicality the remainder of the year. Maybe TCU.

We just happened to get the lucky side of the injuries.

I will say that the tackle by, iirc, Sorenson on the smaller RB, was right at his ankles. If the teams were reversed, I may have overreacted and called that a dirty hit.
