Corby Eason, not looking so hot.

Not trying to be a Debbie downer, but it seemed that of the few completions ole miss had, the majority of them were on Eason and a couple of big drops were also against Eason. However, sampson looked good along with hadley. What do you think the possibility of sampson and hadley starting opposite of each other?

Corby did seem to have a rough game, but they went his way a lot. 1st game. He'll get better.

I'd like to see what Buckner or Johnson could do

I'm watching the replay now, and it seems that hadley played press coverage quite a bit. It seems to me with the field corner having more field to cover you'd want him up pressing. Course that depends on zone or man coverage. I think he'll be okay. It doesn't help that uale seemed to be late on the over the top help. Oh well we won. We now have a week to get better.

He did look bad on the dropped TD, but other than that, Ole Miss passed for 144 yards and no TDs, which is fantastic given their lack of experience and the difficulty of their first assignment. I say well done to all of them.

Wasn't it Sampson on coverage on the dropped TD in the corner? BYU caught a huge break on that play.

Could have been. I wasn't checking numbers - too much shock over almost being down 17-0. Luckily who ever it was had Providence over the top. ;)

Hadley and Sampson looked best out there - especially when teamed together. Sorenson made several punishing tackles. Travis Uale was steady and a calming influence.

Not sure why people want to crack on Corby. He played well all game long. Yes he got beat in the end zone on the dropped pass, but Uale was late coming over on that play as well. And do not forget his pass break-up in the end zone where he nearly picked it. Otherwise, our pass defense gave up a whopping 144 pass yards and 208 total yards, and was very good when Ole Miss got in the red zone, which was a key to the win.

Check the role of the FS - calls out alignments and positions so as to set up our defense. He is an on field QB. Our D played well yesterday. DBs need to pick it up however as Stoudt picked them apart on a couple of series with the play action passes - there was a lot of space between RB/WR and some wide open slack coverage. Good thing is that we recovered and made some adjustments. My take is that Heaps, DBs and special teams need to pick up their game next week or it will be a long day.

One more thing we need to work on - the hurry up offense employed by Ole Miss really caught us off guard and we were lucky that Ole Miss stopped using it.

Ole Miss scored 6 offensive pts. All game. 6. Barely 200 yards total O. With that massive O line.

I think this was due to the defense playing soft and forcing the QB to make some plays. When stoudt came in and was actually making some plays they stiffened up a bit, and it seemed they did a lot better in that 4th Q.

Not lost on that point at all - I believe that our front 7 is outstanding and they really set the tone for the game - and were instrumental in winning the game. We knocked out 3 of their primary RBs - Bolden, Davis and Scott. Only Scott returned. Believe that changes will be implemented with DBs - especially the corners in keeping close to the receivers and challenging the catch.

Agreed. But there top RB went down as well as the other two with problems. Their meat and potatoes went bad. So, because they had more success with their worst form of offense, what does that say about our pass defense? We are vulnerable. The good news is, we dont really play any great passing QB's this year. In fact Utah State may be our hardest game--our weakness against a very balanced Offense. I dont know how good the Texas QB battle is turning out.

I didn't like seeing our corners lining up 10 yards off most of the game. I thought we were supposed to be a lot more athletic in the secondary this year with two 4.4 guys.

Corners get beat at times.Part of football. You have to expect it. You just hope timing is off. Apo beat their guys at times, and their DBs looked fast. Does that mean they sucked too? Focus on entire game results, nopt one play. Coaches do. For a reason. WHat you are seeing now is BYU playing more man on the corners which means morerisk. Less zone allowsus to be aggressive, and that paid off. This D is really good.

That is because Ole Miss doesn't have a QB who can make plays. To give all the credit to the DB's makes no sense. They are still a concern and a unit that will likely get exploited heavily in the coming weeks.
