SEC and BCS Difference - Special Teams

This. They run back kicks for TDs or big gains - likewise punts. They executer on-sides kicks - ask USU. They make tackles. They make field goals. They don't shank punts - unless Oregon State in the wnd. They have more speed and athleticism and depth.

Are you serious right now? ALL SEC teams have great special teams? ALL BCS teams make their field goals and don't shank punts? Do you watch college football?

Isn't there some kind of rule against "This"ing your own post? ;)

They do it a lot more consistently than non-BCS teams and it is because of depth. Watch it again next weekend. I will go on record right now. Texas will beat us in special teams play as did Ole Miss who was not exactly spectacular.



WHen you see a mid-major get outplayed on offense and defense and win becasue of special teams - i.e. the opposite of what happened with Auburn Vs USUS or see one nearly pull out a win in a game that hey were otherwise dminated, like Ole Miss today - let me know. It will happen now and again. Usually, that advantage goes the other direction. And yes - I have watched a lot of college football.

Ole Miss Special teams smoked BYU today - BYU shanked punt, big kick return by Ole Miss, made field goals - both of them, solid punts for Ole Miss.

I disagree. The SEC has quite a bit of raw athletic talent, which does mean something for their special teams, but Northwestern has better special teams than Houston? I don't think so. All the other BCS conferences have special teams that are on-par with other teams with whom they are competitive. Sure, the best teams in the country are generally BCS teams, and they're gonna have good special teams, but most BCS teams don't have any unique advantage on special teams.

I guess we agree - the worst BCS teams like NOrthwestern may nothave bettyer special teams than the best mid-majors like TCU, BSU, Houston, BYU, .....



Now compare Houston to Florida, Auburn, Alabama, ....... Or compare New Mexico to Northwestern.

Yes, a better team has better special teams, that should be pretty obvious. A team that's on-par (I don't consider Houston top-tier non-aq) with another team has similar special teams. Let's compare Washington St. special teams to New Mexico. It has nothing to do with BCS affiliation, it has to do with being a good team or drawing a specific demographic to your athletic programs (ie--raw talent).

TCU and BSU have had top-notch special teams play for the past few years.

SO go through all of the BCS vs mid-major games today and find all of them where one team outplayed the other on both O and D but got schooled on ST. I gave you two where that was the BCS team that had ST than was the diefference. Find an actual game played this day that went the other way. It will happen. It just goes th eother way more frequently.



BTW - itis also the reason most mid-majors (note I did not say all) fade late in the season relative to BCS teams. It is lack of depth. It is superior 2 and 3 deep when the 1s are pretty comparable.
